Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

We are seeing this more and more. Once stadiums get 25-30 years old they want new ones. Braves already got a new stadium from the 96' one they got for the Olympics. NFL's big reason to leave St.Louis was the stadium was no longer ranked top 10 in NFK
It just goes to prove what I've been saying for a while now. That pro sports isn't really about sports but about real estate development and about the further upward transfer of wealth from the working class to the billionaire class.

It really is incredible how much the public resents athletes making millions of dollars.

While at the same time, being fine with shovelling billions in taxpayer dollars into a furnace to build money-printing stadiums for billionaire owners who get to keep most or all of the revenues/profits generated by that publicly-constructed stadium.

Congnitive dissonance at its finest.

Don't forget the best part: when the team owner demands a new stadium be built before the taxpayers are even done paying off the previous one and if they refuse he yanks the team out of the city.

Profits are private, costs and debts are public. That's how the model works.

the one caveat is that i doubt we actually have the best goaltending in the league so our defensive system may be holding down the grade A+ chances even though it's not showing up in the nerdies.

the Rube man is turning you into an anti-statter

eh i think even i've always been skeptical when it comes to GSAA for goalies. there's a context to the highest grade chances (i.e. wide open rebounds or cross crease passes) that the xg models will always have a tough time measuring. i think we've definitely been good at preventing rebound chances for example. i'm not sure on the cross-crease passes - feels as if our goalies have actually stopped a good number of these tbh. but i think probably also they're controlling odd man rushes (though that has come at a pretty huge expense offensively).

but there's a limit to that obviously. our defensive nerdies should be much better than they are.

Yeah, we're not a stealth elite defensive team with 20th place nerdies. We're maybe an average to slightly average plus defensive team specifically good at limiting certain chances because we're playing so fucking passive that we're unlikely to give up odd man rushes and the like.
