Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

I know that you have to make the playoffs to win in them, and bad players tend to not make the playoffs when they're in key roles on a team. I mean, would Lawson Crouse have helped us win playoff games Mitch Marner didn't? Probably fucking not unless we carried him there as a 3LW or some shit.
Question: would you take Michkov over Matthews, Marner or Nylander? I know I wouldn't. So while you're trying to make a point I doubt Hughes passes on any of those three Leafs. He had his reasons for passing so why should I lament anything about it? Even if Michkov is better it didn't happen. I don't live in what-ifs so fans barking about it doesn't really change the metric for me.

Given what our media says about Crouse I think we'd hear a dynasty would start if we emptied the farm for that stud.

Hey, I'm pro Crouse (though he's been shit this year) but not at the 4th overall pick and not instead of Mitch Marner. That's just pants on head type shit.

Straight up:

XXXXX-Suzuki-Frodo
Michkov-Cooley-XXXXXX

would have set the Habs up for a bunch of years in the top 6, with a legit chance of being an elite offensive club. Slot "the right type" of wingers into those XXXXX's if you insist, but that would be a really nice foundation to build off of, especially if Demidov turns into a good top 6 winger.
All 5'10" and under and would get pushed around when the whistles are put away in the playoffs.

Pre draft? He's in the same calibre of prospect as Marner or Nylander was, definitely. Matthews was a different beast.

Again, if you're comparing what they were doing at 19...probably have to put Michkov ahead of Nylander, and at least as good as Mitch. That's probably the level of player you're looking at going forward.

Cooley is 6'0

When Tampa beat you in the finals their 4 best forwards were 6'0 180, 5'11 175, 6'1 190, and 6'1 193

You guys make way too much of this.

My point is, it's not like Hughes decides he wants a solid defender (which every scouting report I saw had Reinbacher as) instead of an offensive winger, the point is he didn't want that particular winger.

Would I have taken Michkov? Probably. I also liked Leonard at five, but the point remains there was clearly things Hughes didn't like and again he wasn't the only one. I would love to have been a fly on the wall in the interviews but I wasn't. They ended up getting lucky that teams passed on Demidov as well and with the same logic that you're using on Michkov, those teams may come to regret not taking Demidov.

What are you on about when those forwards are 3-4" taller than the mock roster you posted?

Suzuki: 5'11 210 - Stamkos 6'1 193
Cooley: 6'0 190 - Kuchero 6'0 180
Michkov 5'10 175 - Point 5'11 175
Frodo is a midget, sure. Trade him if it makes you feel better.

Fuck me, you guys are literally the 5'11 vs 6'0 meme over there.

Dude. It really bugs you that I disagree with you. It's funny.

The Habs have had smaller teams and it's been 31 years. I feel like the woman from Titanic.
