Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

What's the Leafs excuse then megamind?

Mixed bag. It's been goaltending a few times, lack of offensive depth others, big guys not showing up others, Tavares being absent as a way of life hasn't helped either. We're a complex bunch, no easy one size fits all explanation.

You draft players higher because they're better players. A player being better or worse than another individually isn't influenced by the other decisions the organization makes before or after. Patrick Laine would not have been a better choice at the 1 pick than Matthews because Winnipeg won more playoff rounds with him on the team over the following handful of years.

I get the philosophy man, it's opinions on players that vary. Nobody knows the internal workings of any team and thinking in a vacuum, as this is, does not represent reality.

Never said any of it was easy. Well, other than picking Cooley over Slafkovsky & Michkov over Reinbacher, that shit should have been easy.

Cooley definetly wasn't a no brainer at 1. Of course they are all 20 so lots can change. Hell maybe even wright does pan out. It's not like taking kk instead of Brady (or the guy I wanted.. Hughes).

Michkov was a no brainer though. Don't even care if he stayed the full 3 years in Russia.

You're having to carry his water really hard already to justify two of the 3 high 1sts he's had to work with....not sure what proof is going to be sufficient for you. I mean, point blank fucking period if there was a re draft of the 22 and 23 drafts, there's a 0% chance Slafkovsky goes 1st and Reinbacher is a squeeze to keep in the top 10 in 2023, nevermind 5th.
Redraft of 2022 should be #1. Hutson, #2. Cooley #3. Slaf. Considering we drafted 2 of those guys, I have zero issue. I also don't think it's unpossible that Slaf will end up better than Cooley.
2023 at #5 I wanted Michkov and I still wish we'd have taken him. Reinbacher may still end up being a #1 dman... obviously it's way too early to tell.
2024 at #5 we got Demidov and Hage at #20... as of now Demidov looks like a homerun and Hage looks fanfuckintastic.

Leafs had Hage high on their board apparently. Hughes jumped up ahead of them and sniped.

I think it's pretty well agreed upon that Slaf was a reach at the #1, regardless of who anyone personally had as their personal #1. I wouldn't be super pumped about his first 3 seasons in the league either if I was a Habs fan.

Definitely not

Slaf was ranked 1 (was 5th at mid-season though) by the folks Bobby talks to.

Sportsnet had slaf 3

That said. I'm not super pumped about slaf either. Of course so far Cooley has been better for half a season

Cooley instead of Slaf would have made the habs look much scarier and complete as a rebuild at this point. That's a big miss.
Not really, I dont think a slight upgrade on the wing would make our rebuild look much different. Plus, Demidov will be better than Cooley. Face it, you guys are fucked.

Wright was the consensus #1 all year, then in the final couple of months leading up to the draft, Slafkovsky entered the conversation for #1. Virtually nobody had Cooley at #1. I definitely saw some posters suggesting him... but I really don't recall many, if any insisting that he was the best option.

That's ok. Your fear is already high, wouldn't want you in a full blown panic. I care.
