Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

But here's the thing that business leaders don't seem to get: there is no such thing as infinite or unending growth. At some point, you're as big as you're ever going to get and you need to be satisfied with that rather than continuously messing with your product in the pursuit of growth. Not all growth is good and a lot of it is unsustainable.

But try getting capitalists to accept this. Every fiscal year they only want more.

sure, but I don't think we're anywhere close to that for hockey. The NBA is a good guidepost here, they created international demand for their product, then set up league out reach and player development all over the world and it has grown the game massively over the last 30 years while the same 5 countries are over here producing 99% of NHL hockey players.

The NHL has done fucking nothing of the sort internationally. A few games in Europe to start the season here and there, but nothing meant to be a generational effort to grow the game. The NHL is worried about the NHL, not the game.

I didn't say that they've been passed yet.

But they will get passed.
If I had a dollar for all the times I've heard people tell me that soccer is the sport of the future in North America I could buy Twitter from Musk.

Soccer is a pantywaist sport played by melodramatic euro-weenies. It's a sport for teenage girls to play, not men. It will never be violent enough for North American sports fans.

You're such a fucking weirdo.

You're such a fucking weirdo.
An ad hominem attack, in addition to being an offense punishable by a ban from this board, is also not a valid counterargument.

Soccer will never have wide appeal in North America because it ain't macho enough for North American tastes. We prefer our sports to be more violent. With soccer, most of the violence takes place in the grandstand or outside the stadium because what's happening on the pitch is tedious and boring. People are in the stands, drunk and bored, and that's why you get hooliganism. When the action in the stands is more engaging than the actual game, your sport is fucking boring.

Fucking weirdo. All I'm getting out of this is you don't appreciate the nuances of world football. It's fine man, some people prefer Bud Light, others appreciate a expensive bottle of red.

It’s coming… this was pre Messi

An IEG report has found that the MLS generated a total sponsorship revenue of $680 million in the 2022, putting it just $70 million short of the $750 million generated by the NHL

Eat my ass with a spoon bud. You're welcome to fuck off if it bothers you that much

Soccer already has wide appeal in North America though. MLS did 2 billion in revenue last year, have a broadcast deal with Apple and did 11 million bums in seats. That's wide appeal. You have this weird affliction though they when you don't like or get something, that means no one does.

All of the rest of your take on footy is just weird insecure nonsense.

If a game being "boring" led to hooliganism then baseball would be full on riots every game. They have and are making real efforts for people to have to spend less time watching the game.

MLS is what is it, bordering top 10-15 league world wide with a few of the top players in the world now here.

The MLS has done a great job promoting and growing revenues over the last 5 years

Messi will be followed by other stars coming over

Wont be long before they outpace the NHL revenue and franchise values have exploded
