Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

would rather play where he's wanted?

I remain extremely unconvinced.

Also, even if he was open to moving…then why not leverage your NMC into making them trade you somewhere other than one of the worst organizations in the league?

One of the worst organizations that plays in NYC now. its not like it was 10 yrs ago when they played way the fuck out in Nassau. The arena is basically in Queens now.

Millionaires don't often say no to living in New York.

So I’m all ears for a plausible explanation of what Morgan Rielly’s motivation would be to uproot himself, his wife and their six-month-old child from his wife’s hometown and his home for the past 13 years to go play for the Islanders.

Fair point that things are better than they used to be, now that they’re no longer playing out of either a dilapidated old barn, or guests in another team’s basketball arena. And that it is still New York.

Still though, I would bet that the Islanders are still a long way off from being viewed as a desirable destination around the league.

This discussion also feels very familiar, since I’ve been assured many times over the years that other Leafs with NMC’s would have no problem waiving them to go to any number of destinations, and yet they’re all still here. I suspect the same will end up being true with Rielly.

Morgan Reilly seems like the least likely Leaf to go apeshit over NYC

…and now that I think about, can anyone remember the last time any member of the Leafs waived a NMC or NTC to facilitate a trade out of Toronto?

Even Kessel & Phaneuf didn’t waive theirs. They had 8 & 10-team trade lists respectively, and the Leafs had to resort to trading each of them to a team that was on their list.

Kadri memorably invoked his as well to block a trade to Calgary.

ok so no Mo in the deal then.

To NYI: Kampf, Robertson, Cowan, Minten, Blumpkin
To TOR: Dobson, Pageau
You have to stop with the fantasy that the Leafs have anyone outside of their core 3 players that any other team wants.

Matthews, Marner, Nylander, and maybe Knies. Other than those guys, no one is interested. And for Dobson, it'll take way more than just Knies. As for prospects, the only one of note that you have is Cowan and hes not that good.

Besides which, You isnt going to do the Leafs any favors. He's going to make you guys pay minibar prices.

His wife has a MBA and works for Deloitte. There's nowhere more exciting for someone like that to be than Manhattan. As for him...well, he's from Vancouver and has spent his entire career in Toronto, so I don't think big cities bug him. So maybe NYC isn't his thing, but he's spent his entire life in big metros, so who knows.

David Clarkson waived his clause (can't remember if he had a NTC or NMC) in that trade to Columbus. Great move by Nonis to unload that contract for Horton (who also had a bad contract *but* was uninsured & Columbus would rather pay for a player that could at least pass a physical then (plus at least his contract was insured) vs a guy who would never play a NHL game again because of injury issues). Toronto easily ate Horton's contract as it sat on LITR (something Columbus wasn't or didn't want to do).

Did you not suggest Matheson and Evans?
