Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

If Montreal is giving him away, I'd be happy taking him. If they're looking for "****, we traded PK Subban for this guy" rates, then hard pass.

He's 34 with a lot of hard miles, is a legit injury risk going forward and still carries a pretty significant cap hit (7.85m). Still a nice player, but there's a lot of risk there.

6 would put you over the top and in the finals , exactly what you need

He plays with nobodies in Montreal and is having a solid season

He will age very well like Chara and he is 42

"only". That's Shea's money you're talking about though.

It is about value, but there's literally no other team in the league interested. You have a market of 1. Holding them over a barrel and threatening to **** a good soldier out of a couple million dollars. That's a bad look.

On the flip side, Weber can just shrug and say he's not retiring, and he shows up to training camp and fails his physical...which is fucking easy. Just take the summer off, go get some surgery you need, etc.

To save his 6.25 million dollar cap hit. Big difference.
I'm not necessarily talking about waiting until he's ready to retire. I'd be looking to make the trade this year or next. 21-22 at the latest.

Don't know why you would limit your market then. Preds just need to make a paper trade when Shea is quietly ready to hang them up.

Seems that they have the most reasons to go after him. I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable waiting if I'm them.

Meh, I think there's more than enough of an old boys network around the league and nobody looking to proper fuck each other, that the Preds don't have a lot to worry about. This is an easy paper trade to complete when Shea is ready to hang them up. Shea would be more than happy collecting that money on the beach, and the team holding his contract at the time would be more than happy not having to juggle the LTIR room every summer (you can only go 10% over the cap in the summer, Shea's 7.85m complicates that) as well as not having to pay the 1m in cash out.

I think you're making way, way too much of the position the Preds are in.

That said... I'm sure that's exactly what will happen. They'll trade a 3rd rounder for him in 2023.

Yeah, that's more or less what I'm expecting. Mid rounder in a couple of years. If the Habs want a real asset for him, you're looking at trading him now, or this upcoming summer.

I hate Molson. I said it the day they reacquired the team, Habs are fucked. Molson are the worst possible owners, only care about optics and selling beer.

I guess you call Patrick Roy? If he says no you must bend over and give him everything since there' s no one else. But even he is not qualified.

They need to accept a full rebuild and blow it up.

Been saying that for years. They're going through their Kessel Leafs era. Problem now is, nobody takes that Price contract. Not sure anyone takes the Weber contract and gives full value. They wasted drafts by picking mid to late in the first round and getting overhyped nobodies like Poehling, who has 7 points in 22 AHL games, or Juulsen, or whoever else, or worse, taking Kotkaniemi super early when he looks like he's destined to be a 3C. Suzuki maybe can play a little, Romanov is being touted, but really there's nothing much else there. And all their forwards are pretty much free agents after next season, so what's the plan, resign 30 year old Tatar and Gallagher to big long term deals? They have to extend Domi this summer, but what do you pay him when he's not coming close to last year's totals.

Their best option is selling off everything they can this deadline and trying to go bust the rest of the way and for the next couple of years.

Bergevin is the worst GM ever.

Agreed. I keep hearing Hab fans saying they have great young talent. Where? They are missing the elite pieces.
Only 4 points from the Leafs last year. HAHA. So much for that argument.
You can't move Price. They are so fucked. And look at Bobs numbers in Florida. DO NOT give goalies 10+ per long-term.

No elite talent... except maybe Caufield. If he's the elite shooter he appears to be.
