Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Yeah, cause that was all our picks, and of course we suck badly so we really need these players we don't know...yep.

Not all of our picks, just our best one....and if you wait until you suck badly to start worrying about the draft, that's probably why you started to suck badly in the first place.

It's true that we may have just traded the least valuable 1st rounder in history, at possibly #32 in a weak and unscoutable draft.

Yeah, this is fair.

On the flip side though, this also raises the possibility of high skill prospects falling through the cracks.

FWIW, we still do have our 2nd rounder.

And I wouldn’t put it past Dubas finding ways to add some mid-to-late round picks to the stockpile at the conclusion of the season.

Yeah, it's not like Dubas has abandoned giving a fuck about the draft or anything. I just don't think it's crazy to call a 1st for Foligno an overpay. He's a 3LW of questionable overall impact (based on this year's performance) that we just traded a 1st rounder for.

For the first time in a long time (maybe ever) the Leafs management is smarter than forumice in all areas. When I disagree with decisions they make, as I did last night, I question myself more than anything because I am usually the wrong one.

They deserve the benefit of the doubt for me. If Foligno is a dud I'll be the first to scream at glasses which is only fair. Time will tell.

Overpaying?

I will never understand the way some people hold draft picks in like, some kind of religious reverence.
"a 25th pick? COULD BE GRETZKY!!!!"

You are again making shit up here to bolster your argument. I’m on record as being fine with Dubas trading draft picks to “go for it” this year.

I also had zero complaints when Dubas traded a 1st to acquire Muzzin, or had to cough up another 1st to clean up Lou’s Patrick Marleau mess. We’re in “win-now” mode. I get it.

When I say “overpayment”, I’m talking relative to other forwards who’ve moved this deadline, who I was far more interested in than Foligno (Hall & Staal, specifically).

He got Campbell for Moore and 2 thirds though...

That's kinda really fucking good. If he was Bergevin he would have signed Markstrom or something and he could have easily been tempted to sign one of those tire fire UFA contracts this past offseason. He didn't. And that was smart.

You know there was a generalization there yeah?
I mean I did use your post but I think it was clear I was talking about a group think as well and I think it's pretty clear there are people here who really seem to care about picks 25-50
