McDavid is not Kaprizov. He doesn’t need to play any silly waiting games or come up with any negotiating ploys to get paid what he wants.
He could step into Stan Bowman’s office anytime and offer to sign an extension for one year, eight years or any length of time in between, and for the maximum allowable individual player salary ($19.1M), and Bowman’s immediate response would be “yes sir Mr. McDavid, thank you sir Mr. McDavid”.
The only plausible reason this hasn’t happened yet is there is some other reason unrelated to term or money why McDavid is not willing to commit to staying in Edmonton for any longer than he is contractually obligated to.
