Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

Hoh boy, all those folks who kept telling me that the Cap was going to go up by $3-$4M+ next season sure are going to be super happy with this as they try to find new and stupider excuses to explain the shitty spending habits of their favorite teams.

Exactly , keep handing out those Gally contracts

I will never understand the love people here in Edmonton have for Nurse like he's some kind of untouchable. He's pretty invisible on a lot of nights and rarely does anything to make you think he's something special. He gets paid like he is, but you rarely see it.
He is a hell of a player , they are going nowhere without him

Would off made Team Canada at the Olympics

I am impressed at your ability to have so much wrongness contained in only three lines of text.

Please allow me to assist.

Nylander is a much better hockey player than Hyman. Always has been. I don't think there is any objective measurement that suggests otherwise but of course you are free to present it.

The Leafs D is overall much stronger than the forwards. It makes no sense to trade up to two of our top four forwards to strengthen our D - we already have at least 8 (and likely more) legit NHL defenders.

Letting Hyman go and replacing him with the cheaper, younger, and better Michael Bunting was very shrewd management.

We agree about Matthews at least.
just a reminder that I told you all about how awesome the Leafs D was. anyhow, the Leafs now allow the fewest GA/60 at even strength of any team in the league.

they're second overall at all strengths.

and the majority of this improvement occurred whilst all of their top-3 defensemen were injured. Brodie, our #3, only just returned recently.

and before yall scream 'goaltending', we were running out our 3rd string ECHL quality goalie for a bunch of that stretch.

perhaps you should familiarize yourself with the Leafs current d corps, and their performance as individuals and as a team in recent history.

once you did that, you would realize the Leafs have been strong defensively, particularly last season.

and of course, Dubas has already acquired two legit top-four shutdown d-men since he was hired. he rebuilt our top 4. plus those two first round draft picks who are now ready to contribute.
and for good measure

Phaneuf-Gunnarson
Aulie-Schenn
Gardiner-Franson

You can't possibly tell me this is a good d-corps. Granted, like seemingly most here, I haven't looked at their roster since 2014 but there's no chance their d have actually improved since then. Phaneuf must be like 90 by now.

Definitely not Murray

that's two-time Stanley Cup champion Luke Schenn to you.

Kraken have apparently blown the roof off revenue expectations… meaning cap will increase more than $1M.

The league is simply downplaying to come out looking good when they over deliver

Some solid points.

The law of averages will catch up to them like every thing else.

So... obviously their top 3 suck.

I'm not going to "scream" about goaltending because I do believe that the Leafs do have a good D corps. However... they are getting the best goaltending in the league even though Kallgren has not been particularly good in his 9 starts. Samsonov .939 and Murray .926 have been fantastic though.

you're too reasonable for this to be any fun

What? Everybody here hates him.

So we were right. It took your shitty D to get hurt to improve.
