Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

I’m on the Slaf to Laval train. He’s not playing terribly but he needs to regain his confidence with the puck and still adapting to the NA style. Game is a bit fast for him right now.

I'd say it's a lot fast.

It's worth bringing up again, but, what did Slaf gain from starting the year in the NHL besides a bigger paycheck?

At a certain point, when we've done it with 4 different players (Galchenyuk, Mete, Kotkaniemi, Slaf), I have to wonder if it's the owner ordering them to have the players at the NHL level at that age.

I was surprised too. I thought this new regime was supposed to be different. It’s not like he had an amazing training camp either.

I'm hoping Slafkovsky will be the exception, but we outright ruined those other 3 players. Not a single one of them should have been in the NHL when we had them here. KK should have been in Finland or Laval for at least a full year, Mete in Junior for his D+2 season and in the AHL for his first pro season and Galchenyuk missed his whole draft season due to injury. Galchenyuk might have been one of the top scorers in the OHL, but in a best on best tournament, he started the tournament as the #1 center on the American team & by the last game of the tournament, he was a winger on the third line. Sorry, but if a player is going down the lineup instead of going up the lineup in a tournament like that, he's not ready for the NHL.

The thing about Galchenyuk would be, okay, his hockey IQ isn't the greatest and I don't think that's fixable for anyone. Fine, fair enough. But why did we draft him as a center, say he's going to play center, and play him mostly at the wing with the occasional opportunity at center? What was the fucking point of that?

If they didn't think he had the hockey IQ to be a center, then just play him as a winger and scrap the whole center idea out of it.

I think you're off here. That draft was a weak one and Chucky is top three in scoring from it. We didn't ruin him, he's a meathead.

Slaf has been worse than both kk and Chuck in their rookie years imo

Hoping he trends up instead of down like those other two
