Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

Nah. At least one team is gonna have a 10m dollar player in the final.

And yes I laughed at how they moved the goalposts
Who? Benn & Seguin are below $10M, Canes & Fla don’t have anyone (Bob closest), Sea don’t.

Gord Miller’s been saying it for years re: $10M, specifically how Hawks downturn started once Kane & Toews were signed to their deals

Eichel, barkov, bob
Thought Seguin was.... So either him or eichel but I guess it is not for sure but Vegas or the panthers make it

Of course percent of the cap is actually the important number but it is less sexy to say than a nice round 10m

Bobrovsky, Eichel & Barkov all have $10M caphits.

The narrative is dumb. Within five years, it'll become a semi regular thing.

can't have 17 in one conference and 16 in the other, and I also do not want the Nordiques in our division, we already have too many rivals.
The more rivals you have the less you can afford to take your foot off the gas. You want the Habs to be competitive? The best way to do that is to make them nervous about being embarrassed by their provincial rivals in la Vielle Capitale. Fear is an excellent motivator.

So is incentivizing.
Which is the better motivational tool?

1. Hey Junior, if you pass that algebra test tomorrow Mom and I will buy you a new bike

or

2. Listen Mister, if you don't pass that algebra test tomorrow you're getting the belt.

Trust me. You can live without the bicycle. You don't want that ass-whuppin'.

I parked a 60k sports car in the garage and she's had a 4.1 GPA since. Incentivize.

Incentivizing also creates self worth. Kids won't martyr themselves in the workforce. They worked hard and got rewarded is the lesson.

You can keep your belt, I live in shorts and flip flops

Girls are motivated by different things than boys generally, and for some boys the threat of something profoundly negative is often more motivating than the promise of something good, especially if their life is already pretty comfortable.

In the bicycle example, it might be incentivizing for a kid like Worm who didn't currently have a bike, but if it's a case of get a new bike or keep riding the old one, that might not be enough. In that case, having your existing bike taken away from you if you don't meet expectations would be more of an incentive than the promise of getting a new one.

did it hurt when you got the belt?

One of mine wants increased flex/independence with time… it allows for strengthened social networks and sought after activities (in a parent approved environment 🙂) which are highly, highly prized by the child. It’s a happy coincidence, so that’s nice.

But that flex and independence is a privilege predicated on very good grades. Not good, very good. That has been communicated, bluntly. It’s working so far, teachers don’t say shit coz kiddo is crushing it. Side benefit is that time management is being learned.
