Yep, I'm tired of this league continually moving into markets that no real hockey fan gives a shit about, while simultaneously ignoring actual hockey markets that fans do give a shit about, like Quebec and Hartford.Probably a good city, just tired of hockey expanding to non-traditional markets.
The only way to grow something is emerging markets. That isn't the problem. The problem is not relocating when you should.Yep, I'm tired of this league continually moving into markets that no real hockey fan gives a shit about, while simultaneously ignoring actual hockey markets that fans do give a shit about, like Quebec and Hartford.
And tell me what hockey players would actually want to live in SLC surrounded by crazy ass Mormons with crazy ass liquor laws? Maybe homophobes like the Staal brothers or James Reimer but I'd take Quebec every time.
Well I doubt the Yotes care that much right now. Wherever they go they'll need to sell tickets. Rookies don't do that. Established name players do. I wouldn't be shocked to see them trade Cooley for someone with name recognition.Yes he does. He's in NCAA. He can stay in school and go UFA.
I guess the Scouts were before your time. They were one of my first games at the Forum. Simon Nolet, et al.Hockey in KC...
Yeah they lasted 2 seasons before realizing it was a bad idea.I guess the Scouts were before your time. They were one of first games at the Forum. Simon Nolet, et al.
One of my late father's customers was Simon Nolet's brother. I actually remember meeting the guy.I guess the Scouts were before your time. They were one of my first games at the Forum. Simon Nolet, et al.
Then moved to Colorado, which turned out to be an even worse idea, even though it should have been a good one and was proven so by the Avs a couple of decades later. Then they moved to Jersey.Yeah they lasted 2 seasons before realizing it was a bad idea.
I remember the Rockies ending our 12 game winning streak in 1981-82 when we and the Islanders were pushing for the record. We gave up two goals to the vaunted Velli Pekka-Ketola and tied 3-3. Islanders went on to win three more in a row and set the then record at 15.Then moved to Colorado, which turned out to be an even worse idea, even though it should have been a good one and was proven so by the Avs a couple of decades later. The last time anyone in SLC even noticed the game of hockey was the 2002 Olympics. Hockey won't work there any more than it worked in AZ. Moving a team from a market that doesn't give a shit to a different market that also doesn't give a shit is just kicking the can down the road.it is logical to keep them out west although likely travel is harder to Salt Lake City than Phoenix (of course they all charter anyway). That would keep Houston and KC open for expansion which I am sure Bettman wants
Well, all I remember about the 81-82 season is that the Isles won the Cup and we got bounced in the first round by Dale Hunter on a goal that I still haven't seen cross the goal line.I remember the Rockies ending our 12 game winning streak in 1981-82 when we and the Islanders were pushing for the record. has to be in the west to keep balance. A move to Quebec and keeping them in the west doesn't really work logistically (and no Detroit and Columbus will not agree to move west). It is either Salt Lake City, Houston of Kansas City. The last time anyone in SLC even noticed the game of hockey was the 2002 Olympics. Hockey won't work there any more than it worked in AZ. It would only be temporary until Houston gets their expansion team.has to be in the west to keep balance. A move to Quebec and keeping them in the west doesn't really work logistically (and no Detroit and Columbus will not agree to move west). It is either Salt Lake City, Houston of Kansas City.
that was the year we started off hammering teams on Saturday night, 9-0 vs Sabres, 10-4 vs Cannots, 7-0 v Bruins iircWell, all I remember about the 81-82 season is that the Isles won the Cup and we got bounced in the first round by Dale Hunter on a goal that I still haven't seen cross the goal line.
