He has been retooling for years , cant be that

My buddy knows Jimmy very well , its more than philosophical differences .

He thinks he will take a year off and take over another team , he will be sought after .

First thing is paying his many ex wives monthly bills

No he hasn’t been, he’s been going for it every year. Retooling is trying to remain competitive while strategically trying to pry young prospects and/or picks

Trading Letang would’ve probably involved getting some young talent infusion in return

Pens did a retool makeover on the fly

He inserted a young Rust, Guenzel , Reese , McCann, Marino , etc... to the vet mix

Who knows Jimmy probably wanted to dump Letang but was turned down

Their window is over IMO

i don't know if its over. Maybe. I did pick them to miss the playoffs this year because they need a few parts. But some thought their window was over before they won their last two Cups. Years of falling flat after winning in 09, they seemed to be going nowhere and a trade of a big part seemed imminent. .....that return to glory will be Rutherford's legacy.

They might still put another run together with some tinkering, or even without. The power of the star.

The problem with Pitt and others contending is at some point unloading picks to staying competitive combined with cap and decimating depth bites in the arse .

Brian Burke mentioned whispers where Jimmy wanted to dump Letang and start a reset and was squashed by ownership
 
Mario is not stupid he wants to milk the cow to the very last drop (increase franchise value) - only way is to try & win every year till Crosby retires then sell the franchise.

Pit like all US markets is an indifferent hockey market - sure they’ll support a championship caliber team with star power like Lemieux or Crosby, otherwise.....pffffft there Steelers & college football to worry about 100% of the time.

Mario is keenly aware of it...

What's happening in the AHL is completely fucked. The minors is already terrible for the most part, but this is just beyond anything acceptable.

These aren't millionaires, pay the damn players.

At the same time, there is practically no revenue streams AHL teams. It's a pretty bad situation. But many of those teams are owned by the parent team who can afford it. Not sure if that's the case for all teams though.

True but a small slush fund by the NHLPA isnt too much too ask to help out

Take 1% of escrow and have owners match and create an AHL fund , millionaires wont even know WTF happened

Jagr's going to play until he literally can't skate anymore, and even then I have my doubts. He'll figure something out.
