Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

It's a salty price tag for 15 years, but the cap's going to be over $100M within the next five or so years and his buyout will only count to ~1.5% of the cap (or less) for a decade.

Rob Blake's probably thinking, well if it doesn't work I'm getting fired anyway, I might as well hope that he gets his shit together.

might as well fire him now , 1/3 buyout is the way to go

Don’t overlook “legacy play” for potential coaches & GMs - they will forever become part of Make Beliefs folklore like Messier w 94 NYR Cup when in reality without Kovalev’s domination, that team would’ve lost in Round 1
Without Kovalev and that goal against the Nordiques that never should have counted but the refs were in the tank for the Rags.

I think the Kings will quickly regret not buying out PLD. It’s a bitter decision for sure, but I don’t think the risk is worth the squeeze.
As far as I know the first buyout window won't occurr until 2 days after the Cup final ends. His birthday is the day before (assuming the final goes 6 or 7 games) so it'll be a 2/3 buyout, not 1/3.

I thought it can't happen until after the cup is awarded?
The first buyout window opens either on June 15, or 48 hours after the Stanley Cup Final ends, whichever is later. And, according to the NHL’s key dates calendar, the last possible day of this year’s Stanley Cup Final is…June 24. If the playoffs go late enough, the Kings may not even have an opportunity to buy out Dubois at one-third the rate.

Enough time to buyout the bee ach on June 15
