Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

A late mid to late 20s pick (depending on the conditions), a first round bust for Askarov & a third?

That's a hell of a trade by San Jose.

What, exactly, makes that trade good for Nashville?

Honestly, I'm curious. They're getting a first with conditions that is probably going to be in the 25 range, and they're getting David Edstrom, who's been traded twice since he was drafted 14 months ago.

Remember, unless the prospects ask to be traded or threatens not to sign, good prospects almost never get traded. So if a prospect gets traded twice in 5 months, don't hold your breath that he'll be a quality NHLer.

This trade also reinforces my belief from a few months ago: Dear Detroit, this is how you do a rebuild. San Jose's already ahead of them on the rebuild.

Vegas is gonna slip a bit this year IMO and Edstrom is good prospect who cares if he was traded twice

Askarov wasnt reporting and goalies never net top returns in trades

The fact that he’s been traded twice already strongly suggests that he will bust.

They checked him out at the draft last year and passed. They weren't interested. Click bait. You do click on them often.

And this is why your whole thesis falls on its face.

Good prospects almost never get traded.

You know what kind of prospects do get traded, though? The ones that teams don't actually value. And a prospect that has been traded twice before even stepping foot in North America? The probabilities of him being an NHLer are slim to none.

That’s a dumb take, no offense. Fowler is a few years away. Askorov is now. That would be the appeal of him.
Habs are a few years away. Fowler is 20 this season. Montembeault is as good as Askarov is now. I'm betting Askarov still needs two years to impact.

There was no interest in Askarov by the Canadiens. Sure he may have called to see if the ask went down, which it did, but not for a first.
