Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

That's not necessarily true as evidenced by the McGroarty Yager trade
The times those players get traded are exceptional circumstances, see Askarov. If given the choice, I don't think either Winnipeg or Nashville would have traded those players. But since the players basically told them to fuck off...

That’s a dumb take, no offense. Fowler is a few years away. Askorov is now. That would be the appeal of him.
Yup.

Askarov would be Montembault's backup this year and possibly the starter next year... Assuming he's as good as he's been made out to be.

But it happens for other reasons is the point

I don't think Askarov's potential is higher than Montembeault/Primeau over the next 2 seasons. We have a cap structure with two young goalies worked in already with Fowler 2-3 years away as he's turning 20 in November.

There was no point in expending assets like a first rounder for a sideways move or at best a slight improvement in net. Nashville wasn't going to trade him for Primeau and Mesar.

Well, he’s younger and cheaper than Montembault- so that’s not sideways. But goaltending isn’t a problem for Montreal, in terms of performance, cap hits and pipeline.

Better to keep the powder dry. I would rather deploy assets to move Anderson then add Askarov.

There was only low ball offers for Askarov, as it should be. But it wasn’t worth sacrificing anything of value. Goaltending is the least of my worries, for pretty much my whole lifetime as a Habs fan.

Askarov has been meh. Goalies develop on different paths but two season of 911 save percentage in the AHL is good not great

Yes I do... play where you are drafted..that is the way it is has been since the draft started in 1963..
Except for Lindros, Adam Fox, Cutter Gauthier, McGroarty. Last three are NCAA players. Not a coincidence. They have leverage if they are “stars.”
