Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

The owners put themselves in a position of no flexibility or ability to manage their business , thats on them caving in
Yes, but it also means they have the ability to fix it.
All these bad contracts and 8 year deals will be still be on the books even grandfathered in a new CBA
Yes, but buyout rules can be softened.
You simply cant have 32 successful teams and rebuilds take time , but it doesnt help the way regimes do business
First part is true, second part doesn't have to be.
Give them more tools they will still hand out shit contracts , its their nature .
Exactly, so why do you keep expecting them to change? They need more flexibility.
There is no excuse for any team to be shit for 8-10 years , only a handful of teams have missed the playoffs over that span
8-10 years is exactly the expected timeline for a rebuild these days, so I'm not sure what you are talking about. The handful you're talking about are the ones that have been committing to a full rebuild.

There are plenty of factors where teams are brutal for years

Ottawa has no luck for example , terrible goaltending and key injuries derail them every year for a 10-20 game span that kills them in the standings. They are turning the corner this year much better team D .

Buffalo has made terrible decisions over the decade like the Skinner contract

Detroit and Buffalo are the only 2 teams that have missed the playoffs 8+ years in a row, very low %

New Jersey did, you have claimed but for wuhan flu we would have missed since 2017, Leafs went 9 yrs, Anaheim is 6 and counting, San Jose is rising quickly in the missed X years sweepstakes. Leafs have one series win in 8 seasons after their 2 yr rebuild

You can blame "bad decisions", bad contracts all you want but no rebuild should have to be perfect to be successful.

The NHL structure rewards failure and keeps you failing for years.

You're assuming that the owners think that there's anything to fix.

Sure, GM's have a tough job trying to build a winning team while being hamstrung by the cap, but they don't matter. Owners matter and owners LOVE the current system because it makes them rich.

They will lock out the players for a year before they'll cave to the NHLPA. If anything, they'll drive an even harder bargain because they know that the PA is a paper tiger.

The NHL structure makes owners rich. That is the only thing owners ultimately care about and they aren't about to voluntarily weaken their own position. They will keep grinding the players for every penny and the players will cave because in the end, they always cave

I'm not assuming anything. I think it needs to be fixed. And I think there is a growing feeling amongst many fans that feels the same thing. Owners are not deaf to fans, just very very slow to react.

That's your arbitrary rule.

Ottawa is going on 8 this year.
Arizona/Utah missed 10 out of last 11.
Devils missed 10 out of last 12.
Chicago will be 7 in 8 this season.
Philly will be 6 in 7.
Anaheim is going on 7 in a row.
San Jose is going on 6 in a row.
