The deal comes a week after the 34-year-old Weinrich turned down a Canadiens' contract proposal worth $7.5 million US over three years.

According to his agent, Stephen Bartlett, Weinrich said no to the Habs' offer because he was interested in testing the free-agent waters when he becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
