Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

Owners don't care. They want the expansion money. Then they'll move the team to a hockey market afterwards. Nobody in small markets will pay the expansion fee. The relocation fee is always less.

there is only so much tv money in the far east, we can only afford our players by not sharing our pie.

and as you would say, correlation, not causation
Edmonton is as far away from Calgary as Quebec City is from Montreal and both the Oilers and Flames somehow find a way to make money.

It's a bullshit argument. You just don't like the Nordiques. I dont either but I liked when they existed and were a good team because they kept the Habs from taking their foot off the gas. As soon as the Nords left town, the Habs started coasting and winning was no longer the top priority.

The best thing that could happen to the Leafs is for another team to spring up in Toronto. Then they'd have to work for their money for a change. They'd actually have to do something. The Habs have had it all their own way for too long. They need some internal pressure exerted on them lest they become lazy and complacent.

Quebec can't support a team in today's market. Winnipeg is in trouble and Quebec is smaller in size.

we already share the market with Ottawa who is trying to steal our fans in Gatineau and the french in Ottawa. We don't need the Nordiques to steal our fans in Quebec City and the Saguenay or Trois Rivieres.

anyway, it is all moot, Quebec cannot support a team without being a parasite on the league and we pay enough into revenue sharing as it is

We won't lose any fans if we maintain a standard of excellence. That would be the entire point of the Nordiques existence. Ottawa can't do it. Even Boston and Toronto can't. But Quebec City? Oh yeah. Fans won't tolerate the Habs sucking hind teat to them.

I didn't think Lalonde was getting as much out of the team as he should have the last couple of years. I'm surprised it took so long to make a change, but Yzerman is loyal to a fault perhaps.

I think the suspension was too harsh, hell I think Stutzle should be suspended for disgracing himself and Germany for his actions since he came into the league. Hell they flop less in the Bundesliga.

I don’t think it was too harsh, that was a really dangerous and pointless move. But I tend to think that most suspensions are too little.

They needed to send a message to all the centres in the league. Don’t do that shit. Interesting that Getzlaf had a say in the suspension.
