Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

The Oilers have a much better chance at winning something this year than Toronto. And I don't care that they are better, I care that Leafs fans be forced to admit it.
as you have stated, unless the Oilers win a Cup, their season will have been a failure..

as for compairing them to the Leafs, bring it up on the Leaf echo chamber board

Deadmonton's eventually going to falter again because their goaltending sucks and while Ekholm was a great addition, their defense as a whole isn't great.

It's really unfortunate, because the West is wide open and there for the taking. There isn't an equivalent to Bawstun, Toronto or Tampa Bay (the three best teams in the league for my money) in the conference like Colorado last year.

But regardless, I'll be watching every single Deadmonton game I can once the playoffs start. I don't remember ever seeing someone play like McDavid did last year. The way he made the Calgary Flames, a team Deadmonton had no business beating, look like scrubs compared to him? With Draisaitl playing on one leg and Mike Smith giving up goals from the team's opposing end?

An absolute virtuoso and worth every second of your attention if you like hockey.

Don't sleep on Carolina D
I still like Carolina a lot, they're probably the fourth best team in the league.

But I've soured on them a little with MaxPac & Svechnikov both out for the year. With both of them in the lineup, though? Fuck me, that's a good team.

I can't just ignore them losing two big wingers that score 30 every year.

Give me a four team tournament of Bawstun, Carolina, Tampa Bay & Toronto and I'd be happy as shit. Fuck the rest of the East, they're a waste of everyone's time.

One caveat is the old beware the hot team going in, that's Florida in the east and Edmonton in the west.

Maybe, but Florida's not smoking hot atm. They're 6-4 in their last 10.

If the playoffs started today, they're playing Bawstun. I'd be surprised if they won a game.

Pittsburgh's a point behind Florida with a game in hand, but they're ice cold. They're playing Philly tonight. If they don't win outright, I think the race is over and Florida's making it.

Florida's last 5 games

Home-Buffalo
Home-Ottawa
@ Washington
Home-Toronto
Home-Carolina

I think there's a real chance of them going 3-2, maybe even 4-1 if Toronto/Carolina decide to take the night off.

Pittsburgh's last 6 games

Home-Philly
@ New Joizy
Home-Minny
@ Detroit
Home-Chicago
@ Columbus

If they lose against Philly, I don't see them going 4-1 in their final 5 games.

If Skinner is just average they got a shot to go far , McJesus is on a mission and they are the deepest team in the west

I keep thinking the devils will suck but they don't. Tampa might figure it out but they have been inconsistent at best.

They just need Skinner to be average and not shit the bed. The same way Kuemper was last year, minus the occasional jaw-dropping goals he gave up. If they get that, I think there's a real chance they'll be in the finals.

I think Tampa's bored and just sort of playing through the motions a little, but I also think the core's getting old and that team's core has a looooot of miles on their legs in the last 3 years.

As it stands, I'd take Toronto to beat them in round 1, despite their goaltending.

Frank Seravalli speculating a little on what might happen this summer in Calgary.

This season's been nothing short of a clusterfuck of epic proportions.

Ottawa's tied with Columbus late in the third, Pittsburgh's up 3-1 on Philly with 5 mins left, Detroit's up 3-1 halfway through.

Pretty decent day so far. Ottawa should win, and if Pittsburgh + Detroit hold on for the win, all the better. Just need Vancouver to win their game and it'll be all good.

They got hammered by the Gaudreau Tkachuk thing. But still, it was kinda a slow moving crisis that they brought upon themselves.

And Sutter a tired dinosaur. Time to go.

Another come from behind win today keeps them 'alive', treading water is quite indicative.
But saw this crazy stat "It marked the 10th time Calgary gave up a goal on an opponent's first shot of the game - the ninth time against Markstrom" o_O
