Core 4 No More: The Motherfucking Off-Season Thread

I'm a lot more worried about Rielly than a supporting cast member like Liljegren. already can't defend and 6 years left on a big extension? cool, cool, cool.

"sheltering" is probably an inadequate term for what Treliving and Berube have to do here
mo isn’t blazing fast any more. The back end of that deal could get ugly.

It was time for a new voice but queef is far from a bad coach. The team performed under him. I don’t think you can pin Lilly’s melting act on him.

I guess we'll see what happens in Jersey or wherever...but every single thing a coach is supposed to be responsible for we sucked at.

sometimes Sheldon says the quiet part out loud and that line about the opponents setting up their gameplan to let the Leafs beat themselves is a huge indictment on the job he was doing, even if he didn't mean it to sound that way when he said it. he probably meant that the players were mentally weak and in a lot of cases he's likely correct...but the fact is, every single thing that coaches are supposed to be responsible for -- special teams, starting and finishing games strong, making smart adjustments during the season or a playoff series, motivating the players -- we suck at.

I will say that Sheldon or for that matter any coach is gonna look much smarter with a decent goalie. maybe he'll get that in his next gig.

Again, if he flops year one under Berube, fine, move him. But he has the most complete skillset of any of our current D. If he can put it all together, would really like it to be here

I think he got a great opportunity this year tbh. Opportunity was not the problem. He got top 4 minutes all year.

Ya the only reason he hasn’t played 75+ games the past few years is because he’s always hurt. And the only reason he’s been in the press box in the playoffs is because he has sucked.

I just can’t go into the year willing to hand him a top 4 opportunity though. They have Rielly and McCabe and anything less than adding two of the top dmen this offseason is a failure IMO. He’d have to beat someone good out for those minutes.

I don’t believe a player can be really good and also really bad. He’s one of the other. And no bad player can be really good. So he’s really good, but for some reason has really bad stretches, and I’ll blame that on Keefe and the constant assault Lilly’s confidence was under.

I've got no qualms with Lilly being used as a #4-5 next year. There are always injuries and role changes. If he gets comfortable and blows the doors off then great. Defenders take longer to develop then forward, now worries yet.
