Core 4 No More: The Motherfucking Off-Season Thread

Reilly - Tanev was pretty sick pairing a few years ago at that worlds tourney.

Could make sense there. I think the problem with Reilly has been that his partners have been mostly garbage his whole career. Tanev would be a great complement to his game. McCabe - Roy would be a great “shutdown” pair.
 
Tanev is one of the best shutty defenders in the world. You bring him in to anchor the shutty pair, not to line up for offensive zone faceoffs with Auston & Mo.
 
Familiarity of that pairing might play into it. We’ll see how Berube deploys the pairings. I just remember them being great together the few games they played.

Sure, when Muzzin-Holl was the shutty pair.

The idea of getting Tanev and not using him on the shutty pair is kind of nuts.

Also, it's tough to complain about not getting enough offence from the D and then putting a no talent babysitter out there for every Auston Matthews O zone faceoff.
