Core 4 No More: The Motherfucking Off-Season Thread

They picked up two picks before the draft. Didn't know that. I guess it's because they had none in the first two rounds prior to the moves.

The picks aren't their own

The asterisk is we own Florida's.

So not owning their own picks in a rebuild? To me that's screwed. They're mitigating it though.

In this day and age, 37 really isn’t old and players who take care of themselves properly should be able to get up there without much of a drop off in play.

Then why do so few players make it that far? There are 11 NHL'ers playing at 37. Another 11 36 yr olds. Of those 22, a fair chunk of them are former stars. Malkin, Crosby, Ovechkin, Kopitar, Giroux, Varlamov, Marchand. It's really, really hard to make it past 35.

I know most don’t, but I’m saying they should. I think most just don’t have the same dedication and desire to keep super fit. Meanwhile the stars you named usually do. It’s the same reason why there’s only so many stars - huge part of it is work ethic.

Yeah, that's not it mate. Over the years the injuries build up, reflexes get a little slower. The guys who stick around that long tend to be the ones who can process the game very, very fast and are able to make adjustments to not being physically at their peak anymore.

how many 37 yo regular d-men were there in all of hockey last year?

So, it's like, really really fucking hard to make it that long in the league.

Man if all it took was a little work ethic to make it past 35...

Tldr: age is undefeated and it catches up to all of them. You need a really high baseline to have any hope of making it (i.e. Crosby, Jagr, Chara, and even Gio).
