Core 4 No More: The Motherfucking Off-Season Thread

Fuck.

Go to hell Kyle.
Already did. A geezer team on its last legs that he capped out by adding another expensive geezer, so now he’s stuck praying that geezers don’t get worse like other geezers because if they do it’s all over for the Dubas Family.

I think Wes ran the show. I also think part of the mandate was looking for traits that Brad likes. Which is what Wes specifically mentioned in a post draft interview. Granted, he was talking about a 7th round pick but he fully admitted that Brad had some influence. Don't think he ever said that about Kyle.

Think Presto had the quote about how Wes looking for picks "Tre likes". Picks under protest while he negotiated a deal with Dubas.
Doesn’t match up with reality. Tre traded down because Clark told him the best guy for us was available lower. If Tre had a guy, Clark would’ve just picked him at 23.

In other words, reading between the lines a bit, I think he shied away from taking some smaller guys. In 2021-2023 of the 8 forwards they took, 4 were under 6'0. This year not single player under 6'0 of the 8 players taken.

I still think Wes ran the show of course. But it felt like there was at least some influence. And Wes all but confirmed it by saying that his scouts 'know what Brad likes."

Most picks in the draft were very much prototypical Wes picks fwiw. Great underlyings in the Thornhill rec league or wherever they played and IQ IQ IQ. So I do think it was still mostly a Wes draft. It's just that his boss likes a certain type of player and maybe that caused him to shy away from some or seek others. But nothing crazy imo.

They scream Wes to me too.

What is that job description anyway? Looks like he’s not Director of Amateur Scouting and so not running their draft anyway?

Having worked with Wes for many years, I have a deep trust in his ability to identify talent, lead staffs, advance our scouting process and methods.
