Yeah last year we ranked 30th in this list. And got worse.

Then again FLA and BOS ranked 31 and 32.

Though i guess BOS did end up 26pts worse in the standings.

It was a pretty underwhelming, uncreative offseason, with no big swings or really any effort to put the team over the top. Especially if you are just going down with the ship and running it back one last time.

But they are a better team than last year. With hopefully a coach making an underrated impact.

Otherwise we waste another year, everyone getting fired and Mitch is walking for nothing.

Yep. Pretty much.

Can’t remember the last time I was less excited for a Leaf season than I am for this one.

My eyes have always been on 2025-2026 when they free up JTs 11m. Tough to make huge improvements keeping those 4 making all that money up front. Could have been interesting if they shipped Mitch but that could have gone horribly too. Shoulda made an effort to trade JT though. I'm sure the shit market for centers was a factor in not even approaching that idea. They'd be quite shallow there without him.

Last year for me. Reaves and Klingberg were the two worst free agents available and the Leafs got both of them. Knew they were doomed.

Feels like he’s saving his bullets for the deadline. And probably needs to get the Marner situation resolved one way or the other before thinking about doing anything big.

He made it a bit exciting with this Bertuzzi and Domi signings out of nowhere. This year, once again, we knew Tanev and OEL were coming days earlier.

they've definitely improved...in everything except the area that causes them to get knocked out of the playoffs every year.

how excited you get about that is up to you I guess

based on reports, they were trying to get Roy, and had to settle for OEL. Adding Roy+Tanev would definitely have been a big swing.

Last year we didn't really know whether Knies Robby McMann could contribute, and knew that Cowan/Minten/Grebenkin were most likely not going to contribute.

True. Plus we also had Keefe returning for another obvious complete waste-of-time extra year.

So maybe this coming year is marginally more exciting than last season then?

Yeah, the Keefe thing was a total buzzkill. There was no real chance of winning with that guy.

I really hope we remove his plaything Kampf though, for fear Berube succumbs to whatever fucking seductive powers this bum might have.

It remains to be seen whether Treebitch/Berube are any better when it comes to giving promising kids a real opportunity than the fake piece of shit nerd and his pet coach.

Obviously a bunch of those young kids stepping in and playing well in real roles would go a long way towards making this team more interesting and alleviating our issues with depth.

But I won’t get my hopes up.
