Core 4 No More: The Motherfucking Off-Season Thread

So the bull case was that this wasn't an organizational philosophy and they let Keefe bully them into making their team slower and less skilled.

That thesis, I'm afraid, has been squashed. Fuck me.

you should at least be a little happy that you were correct all along? some vindication is better than none?

Are you done?
You know what i am.

I can appreciate you aren't having the best time at the moment as the guy who was your offseason savior spent the day talking about the Ryder Cup and chemistry and unity between the ownership and equipment manager over and over again

After playing the ugliest hockey ever for two playoffs in a row where they can't score any goals and acquire nonstop plugs, their official diagnosis is "we need to score more goals but it's not all about skill. We need to be better defensively, grittier, get in the dirty areas (it's literally all they do.. their entire game is boring gritty cycling) and have a cohesive culture."

Sweet.

Don't forget also, "we can't have the second best goalie, but its not about our goalie, we just need to score more."

I think, given these are the fucking idiots running the team, I'm now partially on team LOF.

These idiots cannot be trusted to trade Marner. Just keep him and hope he figures out how to be less of a pussy.

Tavares absolutely needs to go, but I don't see this management team being capable of improving the roster in a Marner trade. They'll legit dump him for Crouse or something of that sort.

Man, what a shitty time to be a Leafs fan. Nearly a decade of the most talented players we're likely to see in our lifetimes, all playing together, but doomed to failure cause our management wants more grittensity.
Of course it would be the Leafy thing to trade Marner and then he finally grows a pair, mans up and becomes a highly skilled beast. I won't be holding my breath on that but it would be so Leafy.

I'm not sure about Marner but at least part of the cores problems offensively is stylistic-based. Hyman technically "sucked" in the playoffs as a Leaf too. Except he didn't actually suck in the playoffs. The leafs, especially in his latter years, coached and built their team to try to not lose as opposed to trying to win once playoffs come around.

Hyman didn't suddenly get better, he just joined a team that isn't afraid to play hockey.

There's no point engaging in hypotheticals like that. Whatever Marner might become elsewhere doesn't alter the fact that he isn't that now with the Leafs and, after this many years, is never going to be that with the Leafs. If your decision making process is ruled by your fear of what might happen, you never make the move you need to make when you need to make it.

Who cares what Marner does or becomes after he leaves? You need to get rid of him because he isn't doing what you need him to be doing right now.

Besides, the likelihood of that clown growing a pair and showing up the way Pasta did against Tkachuk for example is so unlikely it's not worth worrying about.
