Core 4 No More: The Motherfucking Off-Season Thread

Granted maybe he's a better choice than Keefe just for the sake of getting a new voice. No argument there. But to pretend he's for sure better overall is a bit aggressive for me. As 101 said, way more eloquently, he's the coach version of Tre.

Tired of seeing guys get run out of town (coaches, players, management, whatever) and have them prove themselves to be dogshit elsewhere too and be out of the league shortly thereafter. Sheldon will be on that list within the next handful of years. Keefe is Dallas Eakins if Eakins stayed instead of going to fuck Edmonton up (btw, thanks for that Dallas).

He looked good for a little while because he had a top 3 roster in the league and stopped doing patently ridiculous shit with our style of play like Babcock insisted on doing (you know what we should try? Playing Auston Matthews more than 18 minutes a night....it's so crazy it might just work!). Maybe he actually started off smart and the market broke him. Dunno. But the guy who I've seen coach this team over the last 18 months has been fucking horrible.

That's all fine. But none of this makes the 15 years of McLellan tripping over his own dick a guaranteed better choice. There is a world in which a coach can be worse than Keefe. And we have a lot of evidence that this guy probably ain't any better.

100% chance better choice than Sheldon

Again, not a fucking endorsement of the guy. But I just watched a coach puke the season away on a 4th line shift in the late 3rd period protecting a 1 goal lead. Noah fucking Gregor was on the ice for a consequential moment of the season, just like we had been laughing and memeing about as a 100% fucking certainty all season because we knew how it was going to end. Ryan Reaves played playoff games. Remember when that was fucking hilarious to think about earlier in the season?

Every single fucking joke we told around here all year came fucking true because we knew Sheldon was a big enough muppet to do it so miss me with this dumb bullshit you keep trying to push. You're out here comparing playing Jordan Fucking Staal too much protecting a lead, a top 3 shut down centre in the league, with Sheldon's shit when talking about RBA. These are decisions that simply aren't in the same fucking stratosphere as each other.
 
Anyone who takes the gig will get at least the exact same results as Keefe. This roster isn’t going to miss the playoffs, they’ll make it. The only question is will the next dunce be able to get us past the first round.

I watched an interview where he himself denies having any knowledge of what was going on. From the 10 mins of research I did it seemed like there wasn't any evidence he covered anything up, but I'm happy to be corrected.

Yes because Sheldon would play Kampf over staal if he had both players. This is a very dumb argument. Of course he'd love Staal too. I never compared the two players and neither would Sheldon.

Yeah, was in the middle of writing it out.

The report on this all says that Quenneville was informed. He claims he wasn't. Everyone else around him seems to have been informed, Stan Bowman was in the fucking room when McDonagh made the decision to not contact the police.

Beach made it clear that it was well known around the organization, to the point where players on opposing teams had heard about it (The Flyers specifically)
 
Quenneville claims he was informed that the guy was a weird pest who was hanging out with the AHL guys off-ice and sending them weird texts, but not about anything else. Also things were heavily compartmentalized in the Hawks org and he just 'stayed in his lane', which he now regrets.
