Core 4 No More: The Motherfucking Off-Season Thread

We won't have to dump Tavares. He's basically owed bus far after July 1. His entire salary this year is bonus. Someone gets to have him for zero cash owing and cap space. We're not going to have to pay to get rid of that.

A half smart team trades for JT and then flips him at the deadline for a first round pick (plan gets foiled if JT doesn’t waive to play for a Cup)

Tavares for our 2025 1st round pick that is currently owned by Chicago.

Fuck moving any assets to move Tavares. Would sooner ride out the year and go from there.

Honestly would rather get a player that fits what we're looking for that someone else is trying to move on from.

But we avoided Corey Perry like the fucking plague.

Go figure.
We had a dipshit for a GM. He avoided Domi too.

Who knows who else he didn’t entertain acquiring. Loser kept going to the Soo well.

And getting our 1st next year for Tavares would be a good win in my book. Opens 11 mil on our cap. Also gives us an asset to move at the deadline if need be.

If it gets waived once, does the new team even need to honour it? I’m not totally sure but it rings a bell that they don’t

Didn't Ottawa trade someone (dadanov?) and not tell the other team about it and that team only found out when they tried to trade him?

Monohan was damaged goods so Habs got a first on both sides of the trade. JT will cost you an asset that can xfered into a first
Sure but the full cap hit will be an issue so...

And wasn't it BPs that did the monohan deal?

Who do you got?

Teams that would want to add him will likely be teams close to the cap. So without retention or taking money back it will be an issue.

And why would bad teams not at the cap want to give up assets for half a year of JT.

So is it Utah because of wanting a name?

Who said anything about not taking money back?

Because they're still trying to make the playoffs and may have players they would move on from with multi year deals that we might be good with.

Utah is a pretty obvious one, yeah. Going to be hard to find a bigger name than John Tavares to help you sell tickets in a new market for such a minimal acquisition and dollar cost.

But some other options without getting too crazy and suggesting places he's unlikely to waive to go to, teams capped out next year already, or teams loaded with centre options:

Dallas: Have a thing for old guys & enough cap to make it work.
Anaheim: Tons of cap and Tavares might he 1C there ffs.
Washington
Seattle
Chicago
Detroit
Philly

Those are the easy ones without getting into dodgier locations that he probably doesn't waive for (Buffalo, Calgary, Edmonton) or places he would probably fit but they'd want him to move to the wing (Pittsburgh)

You're making too much of the 11 million dollars in cap imo. If the Leafs are willing to take back someone on 4-5 million in salary, it's easy to fit in for most teams in the summer.

Lots of money coming off this year, bunch of solid UFAs to add, some big time kids who could level up.

Have to test the theory that it was a poorly constructed roster, with a totally fucked in the brain coach, and some bad injury luck at the worst possible time…and run it back with a revamped depth group and strong D adds.

Don’t start dismantling shit now by trading Marner.

OT here...but I just got back from the first chappelle night at the opera house..small venue. He is starting up a new act for a new special and he started it tonight.

Lots of hard hitting stuff mixed in with fantasies of having sex with a Mennonite. It was great. Fifth row
