GDT - Round 2, Game 1 - Can Climate Change Hurry Up and Put Florida Under Water?

you loathe the deserve-o-win-o-meter confirming everything else in your post in graphical form?

Yep, I hate that fuckin’ thing.

Mostly due to PTSD from those series against Montreal & Columbus where we had the puck all game and were outshooting them by a 2-1 margin and still finding a way to lose.

yeah fair enough….I think it’s a coping mechanism for me, for that identical PTSD.

i have no problem with it, but you can’t count on a 4-1 PP advantage. Especially us.

big missed opportunity to not capitalize on it when you get it though.

thought they were a little too loose and sloppy. Need to get back some of that Tampa intensity,

It's hard to wrap our heads around because it hasn't worked that way in Toronto playoffs for years, but losing a deserve-to-win-o'meter consistently will significantly lesson the chance of future success.

With that said, it can sometimes require context. And for last night it was misleading.. they only "deserved" to win because they had a lot of powerplays. Which is fine, but a 4-1 advantage in PPs is gonna be a major outlier when all is said and done.

The PPs happened tho, and we earned them….had we won the game via goals scores on said PPs, the win would be far more deserved that theirs was.

….I get what you’re saying that we played similarly at 5v5….but it doesn’t change the fact the PPs happened, and the scoring changes were legitimately created on those PPs that we simply couldn’t convert.

I think I’d agree more if our only goals came on those PPs…but us going 0-4 should also be an outlier when we create the kinds of chances we did.

wait weren't PPs 3-2 for us?

I mean they also had a pretty fucking fantastic few minutes where they totally dominated and generated a handful of realgud scoring chances. pop one of those in and its a different game.

They got unlucky to not win based on their substantial PP advantage (which again, will be an outlier when we look back). I get where you're going with this. But from a predictability standpoint moving forward, you want to be better than them 5 on 5 otherwise your chances of winning a series are simply going to decrease and be under 50%.

On the flip side, they didn't play well at all and have way more to give and they still didn't necessarily get dominated. They were not grossly outplayed at 5 on 5 like we saw in many stretches last series. I think that's a positive.

And the other bit is, the score/venue adjusted xgf% at 5 on 5 after the 1st period when Keefe got his head out of his ass favored the Leafs. It was still pretty even and I'd hope for better but the narrative shifts if you remove that heinous 1st period.

But yeah, ultimately that was Sammy's loss. We can just call it what it is.

I am looking for the coach who goes..."Why don't get get penalties like the other guys? It isn't fair"
See I have a theory, the Refs love it when Keefe loses it on the bench. They like rewind and watch that shit over and over during the intermissions.

We were the better team 5v5 tho….and also had the superior PP in the regular season, and superior PK. Had a +50 goal differential to their +12.

I can understand not wanting to come away thinking we were a full three goals better than them this game…..but we were the better team, we did deserve to win going away…and we are the better team.

From a predictability standpoint, I feel nothing but optimism.….and I’d rather be the team we are, down 0-1….than be the team they are, and up 1-0.
