Habs acquire Alex Newhook

There's a big difference between Dach & Newhook. Dach was rushed into the NHL by an organization that was just run by simpletons and it was a shitshow. He also got injured one year and that derailed his season.

Newhook, on the other hand, was eased into the NHL for two years and in the third year, he had every opportunity to grab a top-6 spot. And that's why Colorado traded him. There were plenty of holes in the top-6 and he wasn't able to establish himself there; He was expected to make the transition into their #2 center. I get that he has a Cup to his name, but he was a scratch in 40% of the playoffs.

Anyway, we'll see.
Definitely not the same as the price indicates.

But let's correct the timeline
6 games after college (which was only 12 games) is not a season. Also got into 8 playoff games.

And in his second season he didn't become a number 2 centre on a cup contender. True.

Not just that, he couldn't become the #3 center. It's why Colorado traded for Eller. He had two (full) seasons with sheltered play and he couldn't step up to fill in the gaps when needed.

Meanwhile, for Dach & Caufield, who are the same age, both had massive progression this season.

And I wouldn't trade either of them for 31 and 37.

I was very happy with the Dach trade and lukewarm about this one.

Thankfully he isn't Turcotte :p
