I wouldn't be surprised if it was the Jets wanting that condition added so their fans would think that other teams think they actually could win a Cup this year.

I watched several vids with the usual pundits after the trade. Can't remember which one of them said it..but he said that contacts close to the Habs said Hughes cell lit-up after Lindholm was traded. So a possible reason was one or more offered a 1st, and maybe Hughes said 1st to sweeten that offer gets Mony. Since he made it clear in his post-trade PC that risking an injury pre-trade factored into it, it makes sense that he didn't ride it out for even more. I'd bet he could've.
 
Maybe. But in the next couple of weeks there will be more sellers and the market will change. Some unexpected people were moved late last year as their teams fell out of contention. I don’t think HuGo wanted to deal with that.

Bullshit. If in Habdul's scenario? And you get multiple calls and more than one offer of just a first? You get a sweetener. Mr. Asset Management over here leaving something on the table. Disappoint.

Meh. We got 2 first round picks and the benefit of Monahan mentoring Slaf. We got very good value.

we got a first for saving Calgary's cap, and then a first to trade him. Neither will really help the alleged rebuild at this time as one is next year iirc and the one this year will be a low 1st.

Trading him might help as now we are basically Suzuki, Caufield and ankle skaters

A first was all Hugo was getting with maybe 3 suitors at best , nobody was offering top prospects

risk cuts both ways....maybe you get more by waiting...or maybe you get less (more Cs enter the trade market)...or maybe you get nothing (injury which can happen to any player at anytime)

Like stocks, calling the exact top or bottom is a fool's errand...at some point you pull the trigger and sell an expiring asset that has been very good to your bottom line

We dropped the torch when we messed with Roy, Lafleur, Desjardin and Robinson. They should've all retired as Habs. Never recovered from that, IMO.

At least Hughes appears to have a discernable rebuild plan with a vision.
