More fun in the Bennett trade is that Heineman was traded. We tried the Reinhart and Bennet move with newhook and dach. Ooooops
Easier to build a cup winner when Calgary is helping you out (Bennett and MT ).

Defense can be taught. Except to Michkov.
be honest you hate the team drafting anyone taller than youDefinitely wanted Hughes.
But I also remember ppl trying to justify McCarron
Fla didn’t trade any actual drafted prospects except picks - excluding Huberdeau / Tkachuk swapFla core minus Barkov (huge I know) & Ekblad were all acquired via trade or UFA (Verhaeghe)
Unless Bobrov’s old man is completely out to lunch, which I wouldn’t expect to be the case since he was sought after by SKA, there must be something about the Ruskie midget who himself came out to Philly during the draft, admitting he’s had off & on episodes of being a questionable teammate his entire hockey lifePeople want to justify not taking michkov for some reason.
Lots of rookies struggle defensively but he is at 49.6 corsi.
And for those that like useless stats. Michkov is plus 5. Second on the team.
The "knock" on Brady was that while his floor was already at an NHL level his ceiling was low with little room for improvement. Kotkaniemi's ceiling, on the other hand, was in the stratosphere.I also recall many of the Michkov lovers here, saying “stay away from Tkachuk” back then….
I guess Brady didn’t play enough of a pousse caca game..
Yeah, those teams can do that because good players and elite UFA's WANT to play in Florida and Vegas. Those same elite players laugh in your face if you try to convince them to come to Canada in general or Montreal in particular. Canadian teams can't free agent their way to a championship because they are on every free agent's no trade list.True. But it is important to keep drafting and developing so you can make trades.
Of course the core is often through the draft. Tampa, avs core was drafted while panthers are a nice combo and Vegas just goes for it.

No, but if you're Vegas you never have to worry about any elite free agent ever saying no to you so free agency is always an option. If you're a Canadian team, you only get free agents who are out of better options in the States.Free agency should never be your last hope to land good players
noone wants to live thereYou would think getting paid in American dollars and converting it into cheap Canadian dollars and a relatively cheap real estate market in a city like Winnpeg, is like sitting on a gold mine.
Clearly wiseguy1 has never been to Winnipeg. It makes Edmonton look like the French Riviera.noone wants to live there
And don’t forget -40 in January.
ITS AWESOME
While The Globe and Mail has recently ranked Winnipeg as the #1 place in Canada to raise kids and #2 for young professionals – we assure you, it’s always been a delight for those in the know. This charming mid-sized city has it all, from cosmopolitan flair downtown to classic neighbourhoods in the suburbs to nature at your doorstep.
Not even close. It makes Edmonton look like Des Moines.Clearly wiseguy1 has never been to Winnipeg. It makes Edmonton look like the French Riviera.
