Ivan Demidov - Montreal Canadien

Whether it was by design in this regard or not, they also managed to scratch the Quebecois itch without drafting a pure laine Quebecer. An ethnic kid that speaks French and grew up around Montreal and a die-hard Habs fan. Quite a coup in a sense getting someone with all that, rated that high, in a draft with so few French speaking Quebecers rated highly.
None of that matters to the people who obsess over this issue. When those people whine about not having enough Quebec born players on the Habs, they aren't talking about having more Mike Matheson's or Marco Scandella's. They want Jean-Guy Pepsi from Pointe au Pic, un vrai ti-gars, pur laine de souche. They don't give a fuck if you can speak French, they only care that you are French. If you aren't, then you being on the team doesn't count. You may as well be a unilingual Anglo from Westmount for all they care.

Wanting more players who can speak French on a team based in a city where people are predominantly French speaking is both laudable and desirable. But demanding that your team give roster spots to players simply because they can can trace their ancestry back to Les Filles du Roi (something that, unlike learning how to speak a language, is beyond anyone's control) is just plain ol' bigotry.

So while drafting Hage in part because he is bilingual should be a feather in the Habs' cap, they will be given zero credit for it by the people who have agendas. Fortunately, the Habs front office no longer kow-tows to these people, or any fan, for that matter. They know how to pursue a "fuck the fans" agenda in either language and they don't care what anyone thinks about it.

He didn't meet anyone before the draft, except Philly because he was vacationing nearby in NY.

If Milstar didn't have his camp then no one would've met with any of those Russian players, either.

Habs have Brobov whose dad coaches in the KHL

He is connected as well as anybody , he would know every detail on his character , family issues , etc...

I wonder what changed with habs drafting strategy to pass on Michkov but take Demidov.

And no, all of Mccagg's propaganda and whispers of red flags are not true.
Word I got from connections was once the father turned up dead Molson wanted nothing to do with the situation whatsoever. Probably a bad hockey decision but as we all know it's never just about hockey, it's about sponsors, money, politics etc. Shouldn't be but it is.

So our consortium nixed it. It wasn't the Russian factor, it was all the smoke.

Creative playmaker/goal scoring winger that both were debated on for 2nd overall. They seem extremely similar in profile which is why they're constantly compared. Why did they not go Michkov last year and then go D this year, in what was an expected D-heavy draft. OR go Michkov and Demidov in back to back years.

It's just something that is curious to me is all. I'm not sure anyone will agree Reinbacher is better than either forward, and the habs had a pretty good D prospect pool already before the draft last season.
Reinbacher will surprise you. Many teams called for our pick and most claimed it was for Reinbacher.

This kid won't be flashy but he'll be very solid. Type you need to win.

That dick is top 3 in the league and took a fair contract

He worked with the Avs and easily could off demanded more
My comparison was that Mackinnon's is competitive af and so comes off as a dick to teammates.

The same thing applies to Michkov.

Fuckez Vous maudit anglais

Cut with the prejudiced BS already. Then you have the stones to call them bigotted after you being immensely so yourself.

Weak minded fool that you are

Different years, different needs, different players. I don’t think there was any change to the “drafting strategy,” if there even is such a thing.

You of all people should know that all Russians are the same.

That dude is a prejudiced fuck. Sorry mate. Tired of his shtick
Sure, except for the fact that my ancestry actually does trace all the way back to Les Filles du Roi so I'm "immunized", as Aaron Rodgers would say, against charges of prejudice. But since your ancestry only traces back to a souvlaki stand next to the Acropolis, you are obliged to tread more lightly around the subject than I.

What I said is 100% true. I know this because I have actual blood relatives who think that way. I may be a fuck but I'm not a prejudiced fuck nor an uninformed fuck. I know whereof I speak.

I wanted Michkov, 100%. So having said that, I think there is some fire to the smoke about attitude etc. And they're clearly being very selective to build the "culture" they want. I think that's the biggest reason. However, looking at it from a strictly hockey perspective, considering how high RD's went in this draft, they probably felt Reinbacher provided more value at #5. Just like Chicago thinks Levshunov is better value at #2 over Demidov.

They've been following and meeting with Demidov and his family for years. Bobrov's dad being a scout for 15 years and still active, likely had a lot to do with both the Michkov non-pick and the Demidov pick.
