Juraj Slafkovsky, Montreal Canadien

I think Hugo went with Slaf for the higher upside

You are drafting the best 22-30 year old , not 18

They figured Slaf is a unicorn built around a Rantenen and Tkachuk

Wright is not an elite 1C but probably no better than Suzuki and certainly not Bergeron
But wait, some poster on HF Boards kept telling me that because his “comparable” is Bergeron, that means we passed on the next Bergeron.

That’s what was weird by the conclusion of that report, after essentially praising Slafkovsky as the better player, it concludes by saying that Wright will probably accumulate more points. I don’t know many situation where a winger that produces less than the center is seen as the better player.

I see it if that C is not a top end star and the forward has other elements to his game

I could see a team taking a 75 point Tkacthuk over an 85 point Barzal as an example

The comparison to Bergeron is a little infuriating because Bergeron himself was a 2nd round pick. Smart well rounded, 200 ft centres lacking one overwhelming attribute aren’t locks to go #1 as teams feel good about drafting those guys later — see Ryan O’Reilly, Nick Suzuki, etc

Slafkowsky went #1 because he’s a unicorn. On the ascension (while Wright’s stock has flattened)

Maybe Slaf’s production matches his buzz worthiness, maybe it doesn’t, but I can see what makes him too alluring to pass up.

I essentially viewed that synopsis as: Slaf will be fine for regular season but possesses the attributes to maintain that trend to succeed in the playoffs while Wright is more fit only for regular season play, hence, point accumulation

Both will be 23 by the time they are playing a meaningful playoff game :geek:

Habstonight is a full on ripoff to begin with.

They stole a Caufield design to sell it. And that Annick whatever her name is, calls adding a filter to a picture painting. They are an embarrassment.
New stuff coming. I'll be in touch man. Think you'll like it.

So apparently Wideman gave up the number for nothing. Switched to 6.

Of course 6 was Wiseman's original number on other teams so I guess it worked out for both. Karmic activity at play with the Habs.
