Laval Rocket Thread

McNiven saved 29 shots and got the 1st star in a 4-0 win. Maybe there is hope Habs can have a decent backup. Fairbrother got his first professional goal.

McNiven will never be a regular NHL goalie, starter or backup. Spot duty only would be his ceiling. Another Hutchinson.

My 9 year old is playing his first year of AAA and I'll probably spend around 15K this year. GTHL is very expensive, plus skill development, power skating, tournaments etc.

Luckily, my parents are helping out and my work threw in a sponsorship. Some good players went to AA because it's way cheaper from his team
This represents everything wrong with youth sport.

As my younger son actually plays AAA hockey in the U.S. I can tell you guys that this notion (mostly from Sal) that most families here whose kids play AAA hockey are "wealthy" is not, on the whole, accurate. It might be the case where he lives - Fairfield County, Connecticut - but I've travelled enough with my son to see that it's not the case overall. Hockey parents tend to sacrifice a lot for their kids.

I've been doing about that amount per year for him for several years now. Here's my advice: get out while you can, it's an expensive road to nowhere . . . but it is fun. The real problem is that tier 2 hockey is just not comparable to tier 1 quality-wise, so if your kid is good enough to play tier 1 it's nor "fair" to have him/her play at the lower, less expensive level.
