Leaf Rumours

The leafs are using Bodie, Abbott and Devane....they'd be insane to not investigate forward help

... Look around the league. Most teams have way more guys like that and in bigger roles. Not to mention, it's only because we've had two top 9 forwards suspended or injured. Like I said, we get Clarkson back in 6 games.

If the Leafs trade Gardiner it's because they (a) plan on resigning Dion, (b) plan on signing Franson long term, (c) believe Rielly is worthy of top 4 minutes immediately, (d) love Gunnar and the value he brings, and (e) think they could potentially get a forward worth as much as Jake, in a Schenn/JVR type deal.

....that said, I highly doubt there's any truth to the rumours and expect Jake will be a Leaf for quite a while.

and for what it's worth, we're missing kulemin too

JVR - Bozak - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Clarkson
Kulemin - Bolland - Raymond

We don't need forward help. It's a short-term situation that will be resolved in like two weeks.

Bob McKenzie tells TSN Drive that the Leafs are looking at trading a defenseman for forward help.

I don't get it. Our forwards are fine. We get Clarkson back in 6 games and Kulemin back soon enough.

Think AHL deals.

We've got 10 AHL defensemen. And they're mostly really good AHL dmen borderline NHL dmen.

Guys like Holzer for depth forwards?

Kind of misleading with all the buzz about Gardiner going around if that's what he means...

some GM called Nonis about Gardiner. Nonis said no. That's all that happened.

But we know that Nonis of course wants to trade Liles, and that prospects like Holzer and Blacker are getting pushed out by a new wave of kids......and that they're carrying 10 defensemen on the marlies for no apparent reason.

I don't think there's anything to the Gardiner rumours either and I think it was all blown up for nothing, I just think it's silly given that that's all we've been hearing about that Bobo would come out right now and say the Leafs were looking to trade a d-man for forward help and not indicate that it could be just a minor level deal. But I guess that wouldn't get as many hits.

Holzer can play a bottom pair role somewhere and he's reasonably priced. That's not going to bring "forward help" for our lineup at the NHL level, though.

I think Bobo was just being sly.

If he meant they were looking to trade Gardiner, then since the rumor is already out he would have said it was jake. Think he's just piggybacking on the jake rumour to generate noise.

If Holzer can play a bottom pair role somewhere, then he should be able to bring a forward who can play a bottom line role, no?

It's not like we're looking for a top-9 forward. They're not shunting Raymond or Kulemin to the 4th line.

Better than what we have already? You never know I guess, but I doubt it. We have a bunch of guys that can play a 4th line role in house. I'd rather trade Holzer for a draft pick than some scrub who isn't an improvement on what we have. Throw an extra ball into the draft lottery pot for your scouts if Holzer isn't going to make it here.

We're not looking for a forward at all, I wouldn't think. Clarkson and Kulemin will both be back by month's end and we're already off to a great start on those 10 games without them.

But hypothetically speaking, if there was an opportunity to get a really good forward that would truly improve us at the cost of, for example, one of our existing forwards plus a defenceman, you'd have to think about it. I have no idea who that would be, but that might be one possible scenario.

Carlyle took over three seasons ago and got a good 20 games or so after Wilson was fired.

Pretty sure Franson was in the doghouse with him for the rest of that season, plus some of last year till he finally emerged.
Nope. After just playing two of the first ten games Carlyle coached, he finished the season by dressing Franson for seven of our final eight games. Considering he'd spent the whole year in Wilson's doghouse, he got out of Carlyle's relatively quickly. And of course, from the moment we re-signed him last year, Carlyle made him a regular in his starting six.

Colborne - issue isn't whether he'll be good or not, I just wanted us to give him that shot, that's all.
"Give" being the operative word, of course.
