Leaf Rumours

There's nothing to these Gardiner rumours. Just the stupid, lazy media. They tune into HNIC and hear "teams Calling About Gardiner" and that morphs into "Leafs Want To Trade Gardiner". It's not happening.

If HNIC doesn't mention Gardiner on Saturday, none of these suggestions of Gardiner being on the move exists.
 
Leafs' assistant GM was on radio and confirmed there's an offer for Gardiner, but he turned it down rightaway, saying "We're not looking to trade Gardiner, or any of our young defensemen for that matter."
 
Its likely with other GMs seeing Rielly in the mix and not looking out of place Gardiner may be expendable. Glad to see management see it differently
 
Good to hear that we aren't making a move just for the sake of making a move.

Dealing Gardiner for anything but a star player in return would be a step back.

thank goodness. The return would have to be epic to move Gardiner IMO. Kids a Beaut
 
His skillset is through the roof, but he hasn't exactly been good so far through the first three games, which is disappointing.

I hope he gets it together quick before Carlyle sours on him as he has with some others.

What other young players has Carlyle soured on? He's been the polar opposite of Ron Wilson in that respect.

Didn't say young players, but he does seem to get down on someone and then hold them out of the lineup if he reaches his boiling point.

Franson comes to mind, though he got out of it obviously. Liles is another example of a guy he hates. Colborne. Gardiner himself, in that they simply didn't want to bring him up until the pressure got too much with the whole "free Jake" thing. I'm sure there are more, but I don't have time right now to look back on the rosters for the past few years.

In some cases, the hate is deserved. I think Franson and Liles both earned it, but Colborne never got a shot, and Gardiner was unduly kept down.
 
Carlyle expects his players to play in a certain way, and the guys who buy in have great success (JVR, Franson, Bozak, McClement) and he guys who don't buy in don't have success (Connolly, Mac, Colborne).

I won't touch your having included Colborne on that list. We've both stated our opinions there more than enough times, and the opportunity he's being gifted in Calgary should settle the debate once and for all there. As far as Franson is concerned, I'm not sure what you're talking about there. Within a couple weeks of his arrival as our head coach, he'd released Franson from the doghouse Ron Wilson had him locked him and began playing him every night, and he's been gradually leaning on him more and more and giving him more opportunities since then.

Gardiner and Liles you could argue though. He definitely decided immediately upon his arrival that Liles was not his kind of defenseman. And he was way too overly cautious with Gardiner last year, but he gave him plenty of rope in the playoffs and a lot of latitude so far this year.
 
Carlyle took over three seasons ago and got a good 20 games or so after Wilson was fired.

Pretty sure Franson was in the doghouse with him for the rest of that season, plus some of last year till he finally emerged.

Colborne - issue isn't whether he'll be good or not, I just wanted us to give him that shot, that's all.
 
Bob McKenzie tells TSN Drive that the Leafs are looking at trading a defenseman for forward help.

I don't get it. Our forwards are fine. We get Clarkson back in 6 games and Kulemin back soon enough.

When was the last time the NHL media was correct about the Leafs transactions?
