Some people are really using our good shootout record to bury their heads in the sand about our record. Shootouts were a completely useless way of evaluating a team's performance last year when we were terrible at them, and it's still an totally useless way of evaluating a team this year now that we're good at them. The best way to see how this team is really doing is to look at regulation and overtime win totals, and in that category, the Leafs are 12th in the East and 23rd overall in the league. And with the way the team's played generally, especially in the last couple of months, can anyone really say that ranking is an inaccurate representation of how we've played?
To put it in further perspective, if all those shootout wins and losses became ties, our record would be 14-19-11.
