Leafs' Prospect/Marlies Discussion Thread!

Neither Woll or Sammy deserve much or any rope. Neither have the track record to keep Hildeby behind them if he keeps this shit up.

don't get hyped on anyone yet.

but at least play the fuck out of Hildeby on the marlies for now. no more 3 goalie rotation.

I don’t really understand wasting starts & development time on Petruzzelli.

That dude should be thankful that the perfect storm of injuries up and down our goalie depth chart last year scored him an NHL contract and a game or two sitting on the bench as a backup.

But send him back to the ECHL where he belongs, give Hildeby the lion’s share of the starts and then the rest to Jones, since he’s the designated call-up if we’re down a backup short-term and need a warm body to sit on the bench.

We deserve Woll, Hildeby or the Russian to be a just good enough goalie that we can ignore the position for 10 years. In my lifetime Potvin was the closest thing.

…and even Potvin wasn’t even close. Gave us one season of elite goaltending, followed by four seasons where he was consistently around 10th overall in SV%, then he dropped off a cliff.

Johnny Bower might legitimately be the last Leaf goalie who gave them consistently high-end goaltending for more than five years.

Does consistent high end goaltending for more than five years really exist anymore though?

Vasi might be the only guy that meets that criteria.

Helley if you squint maybe?

Shesterkin might be on his way.

The days of the long term franchise goalie like Roy, Hasek, Brodeur, Luongo, Lundqvist seem to be over.

Meh. Shesterkin, Helly, Sorokin, Saros, Vasi. Over the last 5 years those guys have 50+ gsax. No one else has more than 38.

Then there guys who are just solid like Varlamov, Kuemper, Ottinger etc.

There are still good goalies.

I mean, you could probably lower the bar to “average or better starting goaltending for a period of more than five years”, and Bower’s still probably the last Leaf goalie who clears that bar.

Sure, but LGM said high end for 5+ years.

Saros is debatable. Starters workload for the last two years, split work before that.

Sororkin has two full seasons.

Unless you've got one of the top like three guys I think the best goalie strategy right now is:

-Draft one every year, preferably not in the first two rounds
-Have two good to decent ones to platoon - at least one should be cheap
-Don't fall in love

Only reason Saros is debatable is because they had Rinne. There is enough good goalies that the Leafs can have their first in 50 years.

Fucking JFJ.

how long was Eddie around before the disaster post-lockout year? less than five years, I imagine...
