Leafs' Prospect/Marlies Discussion Thread!

I'm not sure I like Amirov all that much quite frankly. Seems to have middle sixer ceiling. Knies could easily surpass him this year if he performs like I think he can. At the very least his ceiling has to be higher, even if his floor is lower (just due to more uncertainty of who he is).

Always been big on Niemela too. Dude is awesome.

I think the thing with Amirov is that the skill level is so obvious, and his 2 way game is so advanced. Gotta start to see him put up real numbers in the KHL though (which is notorious for burying young players at the end of the bench) for him to keep that ranking. A bunch of high upside kids are behind him and some of them are off to great starts this season (Niemela, Kokkonen, Knies specifically)

I just mostly see a well polished two way "pro" game when I watch him play but I've never really seen much in terms of explosive offensive ability or super talent that gets me jacked up. He's got a bit of kulemin to him, who in his prime was a very good valuable player. But I'm not sure rodion has it in him to be a big time scorer or anything. Would be great to be wrong.

In any event I like his odds of becoming a decent enough responsible middle sixer which is still extremely valuable.

The goal is sick. The primary assist is nice too.

But look at the two plays before that - Ho-Sang with the physical board play to get that puck out of the zone and then Semyonov with that BEAUTY one touch cross ice backhand pass to spring the 2 on 1. Semyonov makes lots of smart plays like that.

The longer replay shows the nice work Joey did winning the puck in his own zone and leading the breakout:
