Drafting Euro & NCAA goalies is the way. A much better track record at turning out good NHL goalies over the last 10 years and you get to stash them for so long after the draft. The Euro goalies specifically don't come over until they have 2-3 years of professional experience against good competition.
 
I know I kinda sound like a Niemela hater but I don't think his stats are too impressive.

3 5v5 goals and a 23.5 SH% isn't encouraging, especially when we don't have 1A/2A data from the AHL. G > 1A >> 2A especially with forwards.

I mean, PPG in his first 26 games of AHL play is better than not obviously but if we're poking holes in our prospects lets poke holes in all of our prospects and not just leave our personal pets alone.

Quick observations:

- Steeves reputation as a power play merchant is incredibly over stated (fuck you Preston). That's good 5v5 production.
- Bellows also deserves a look, might just be the classic AAAA player, but still.
- Tverberg leads the team in 2A and his P1 per game rate is pretty pedestrian
- Regarding Niemela v Villeneuve, more or less identical primary points per game and more or less identical age. Doesn't really bother me as a Topi Stan, I'm fairly high on Villenueve as well.
 
Hey I've been very complimentary abotu Steeves' 5 on 5 production this year! His numbers have been the most impressive of the Marlies group for me aside from Bellows who technically isn't a Leaf yet. It looks like honest to goodness genuine improvement.
