Leafs' Prospect/Marlies Discussion Thread!

Contrast that with Cowan in his D+1 and there's only a handful of modern comparables between 1.75-1.85: Marc Savard, Shane Wright, Galchenyuk, Wyatt Johnston, Gabe Vilardi...lol extend it by a few years and Sheldon Keefe shows up. But just about every name in his grouping was either an elite prospect an impact NHLer, or Sheldon Keefe.
Imagine having a Keefe behind the bench and also a Keefe on the bench at the same time. A guy can dream...

Yeah, I'd definitely part with Minty before Cowan, but I'd still much prefer keeping both since it feels like Minty could conceivably step in on the third line as soon as maybe next season. Good cheap young talent, exactly what Keefe hates, but I love it.

Having four legit middle sixers or better in Knies, Robertson, Cowan, and Minten making a combined $4M is kinda gold for this team. I'd be cool parting with pretty much everything else in the minors, except Hildebeast and Pesky.

Oh, and add McMann and Holmberg to the list of cheap capable third liners too. Really important to keep this kind of depth, and not waste cap and trade capital on shitty vets.

I'm going to bet that Minten isn't NHL ready next year. Most 20 yr olds aren't and I don't think he's going to be one of that top % of 20 yr olds who does it next season. The only 20 yr old forwards who are full time this year are Johnston, Mason McTavish, Matt Beniers (sort of, turned 21 in Nov), Cole Sillinger. That's it. That's the list. 4 guys. I don't think Minten is that guy or even really close to being that guy.

He looked decent enough in his very first handful of games. Add another full year of seasoning in the minors, a WJC captain gig, an offseason of training and growth, and I don't see why he wouldn't be able to be a potential regular in a limited role.

Honestly means nothing. Lots of guys have looked kinda sorta not shit for a few games.

Not impossible obviously, but there's a reason that only a small handful of 20 yr olds crack lineups around the league every year and usually on shit teams. You boy Knies is a good example, 21 and barely treading water despite playing with two of the top players in the world. At 20 we can assume that he simply wouldn't have been NHL calibre and I'd say he was a better prospect at 19 than Minten is now. Robertson was a better prospect at 19 than either and is just this year looking like a good NHL player at 22. Expecting anything from Minten at 20 is a long shot. Shit, it might even be detrimental. I'd much rather have him getting 18mpg a night in the AHL than 8 minutes a night in the NHL on our 4th line.

I mean, I'm not penciling him in for next year. I'm just saying that he could potentially join as soon as next year, but regardless, even the next year or whenever, still important to have that cheap higher end youth depth to deploy.

I'd part with him in a trade for a really good player in his mid/late 20s who we could have some term on.

Not for say another McCabe level guy, but for a Hanifin or someone like him. I'll be very upset if we trade him for some expiring geezer like Tanev.

Minten is probably the best candidate amongst our prospects to move out, just because I expect his value around the league is higher than his actual value.

I mean his ceiling is likely as a third liner, based on his junior production.

But only move him in a deal for someone with term. No rentals.

Is Scoutch Craig Button or better or worse?

If anyone makes a graphic with pipeline rankings on their first Mac, does it get discussed?

If you care you can look at his website and youtube page and decide for yourself.

I'm not in the habit of posting links to random fanpages, for the record.
