Les Habitants Prospects Thread

Anyone, especially a hockey writer, that seriously thinks this kid's ceiling is an AHL'er is full of shit and hates the kid personally.

Boisvert says he’s a 3rd pairing D on a championship calibre team.

He absolutely does not say Mailloux is most likely to be an AHL player.
Ah, thank you for context. Always missing it seems from certain group-think. LOL. Even then, if he's saying ceiling, that's still doesn't make sense. As the definition of ceiling would dictate...

With Boisvert’s logic, you might be able to argue Mailloux is a second pairing guy on a shit team. He always situates players in the context of a championship calibre team. That’s why he says Beck is 4th liner.

It's a bit of a bizarre way, IMO. But he's entitled to it. I think he's a great prospect. Been following him closely from that 22/23 London season. He was an absolute GIANT all year, but especially in the playoffs. He elevated his play to rise to the pressure. All great signs that he has high compete level. A winner.

That being said, yes, in an ideal world, Reinbacher is on our second pairing and Mailloux is 3rd, I'd be very happy with that.

My personal prediction: Reinbacher will be a 1st pairing RD and a very, very good one. He's got all the tools. His offensive ability is extremely underrated. And he's got very high IQ.

I think DR will be first pairing just by process of elimination. I don’t see us drafting high enough moving forward to snag a true no. 1 d-man . . . but you never know, Quinn Hughes went 8OA - yeah, I get the irony there.
we were never going to take him though so I do not get upset with not taking him, the fact we took Judas Iscariot instead Tkachuk upsets me

And it might not be strictly necessary if Hutson is a PP specialist. If the rest of the D group is basically 3-4 calibre on a “championship calibre team”, then that’s solid.

I don't see Mailloux as a 3rd pair guy but I do not see him on top pair as that will be Hutson on the left so no way we have two offensive guys there. I can see Logan with Guhle on 2nd pair

This is a fairly even, D by committee group. No #1 superstar, but a pretty damn good group that’s deep. Mix and match are possible, and the “gap” between D1 line and D3 line might be pretty small.

LOL..sure, sure. It was Creston, BC, btw, not Nelson.

But moving on to Mailloux, how much have you seen him actually play? I'm curious. To say his "most likely CEILING" is an AHL defenseman smells, no stinks, of wokism bias. It's ludicrous. He's big, strong, decent skater, has close to a Souray-level shot from the point, including a wrister/snapper that is an absolute rocket, and accurate. Is an excellent outlet passer, especially stretch passes to spring the attack. Plus he doesn't hesitate to drop-them and stand up for his teammates. His only real weaknesses are in the D zone. Which is not unusual for young RD prospects. If he cleans that up a bit, I can guarantee you he will be a 2nd pairing RD for years to come, with the outside chance of being on the 1st pair if he becomes reliable and dependable in his own end. He's a very talented kid, with lots of tools teams drool over.

Weren't you the one that didn't want to turn things political? Keep it to the politics thread.

Mailloux's a curious one for me.

There are obvious things that will get anyone excited: Prototypical size for a d-man, right handed, has offensive talent, has a little bit of a mean streak in him, etc.

Problem is, he's prone to brain farts. There are times when he's playing and he'll just do something that makes you think, come on man, the fuck was that?.

Now, is that because those are the cons that come with his game, or is it because he missed a lot of time since Covid? That remains to be seen.

What worried me about Mailloux, and I'm not comparing him directly, is that besides the amount of games played, all of that sounds a whole 'lot like Nathan Beaulieu.

Obviously I'm not hoping for to turn into Beaulieu, but if he's a mainstay as a top-4, he needs to cut out the mental mistakes because those will always get him in his coach's bad graces.
