Correct.

Harper had more seats than the Libs & NDP put together, but was in a minority situation because the Bloc still had a sizeable contingent of MP’s at the time.
Yeah, any government that allied with the bloc would be shunned for a generation.

But I think a NDP LPC coalition is acceptable. At least to those on the left.

The right is going to cry coup.

It worked for Harper.

I remember being stunned at the time at how forcefully and successfully he got the public at large to buy into the idea that the party with the most seats has some god-given right to govern, even in a minority parliament, and how a coalition was tantamount to an undemocratic coup.

Yeah, although as much as it might make sense, I don't really see the Libs going along with it. Libs hate to give up power, and hate to give credence to the NDP, so would be really hard to figure out a power sharing agreement that would make sense. If they're bringing in 35 MPs, you have to give them at least one of the "big" portfolio, but like, which one?

Canada is not set up to have true formal coalitions. I think the Liberals wouldn't really want it to work, since if you can legitimize them and people actually like them, suddenly people won't be as scared of voting NDP or Green anymore to keep the scary Conservatives out of power.

I don't think Trudeau wants to fight for every single vote in parliment.

I don't think Trudeau want the rug pulled from under him at any point as well.

If Mackay is the next Conservative leader he will want as long as possible to rebuild his brand and rehabilitate his image before another election.

In most coalition, internationally anyways, the bigger party usually comes off on too, so there is that as well.

Just a few reasons I think Trudeau might want to mull it over come October 22nd.

It is about control .... whoever is the one sitting on the throne in the end, gets to make most of the rules.
I see a coalition of bloc and cons as the eventual winner.
Or may I just be the first to offer this scenario ..... a bloc, NDP, green coalition.
That would make me laugh and be so much fun for the next few months until they all went nuts.

If the NDP ends up in a position where they're able to prop up a Liberal minority, they'd probably wise to avoid entering into any kind of formal coalition government. Being the junior partner in a governing coalition never seems to work out too well the next time an election rolls around.

Better to offer support on confidence matters on a case-by-case basis, in exchange for concessions that are important to their base.

2 things.

First, the bloc and CPC, at this point, dont look like they will have enough support.

Secondly, and most importantly, what do the bloc get out of propping up the CPC? Their entire raison d'etre is to stand up to ottawa, not work with ottawa. If bloc voters get the sense that they can have a working relationship with ottawa as opposed to a confrontational one, they would just vote Liberal, NDP or Conservatives.

As it stands, Singh is a turban wearing man in a province that would ban him from being a cop or a teacher, they aren't going to want him to be prime minister.

Liberals have left the door open to doing something about bill 21. With it having 70 percent support, this is intolerable to Quebecers outside of Montreal.

Conservatives want a energy corridor that would shove pipelines on Quebec, as well as run by a anti abortion (personally) anti gay(personally) leader, no climate plan(quebec is the most environmentally conscious jurisdiction in canada). The bloc would get crucified if they propped up the conservatives.

The conservatives have no natural partners.

Yeah, that is usually the case.

Which is why I think if Singh wants to put that option on the table the liberals would be wise to take it up.

The endorsement in question:

Not really a fan of this, FWIW, even as someone who's leaning towards voting Liberal and who liked Obama as POTUS. Foreign heads of state, whether current or former, should really avoid poking their noses into the middle of our elections, IMO.

Taking on issues like climate change by bailing out big oil and buying a pipeline. This guy lies so casually that he doesn't even bother to check why Trudeau might not be liked by the climate crowd.

Poll tracker...

Both libs and cons at 130.

Both NDP and Bloc at 38.

I do remember something about Mindz saying once Canadians got to know scheer they would flock away.

He was right.

Problem here is people got to know Trudeau, Blanchet, and Singh as well.

Maybe Quebec has the right idea here. Neither the Liberals or Conservatives deserve to win.
