New Canadian Politics Thread

Yeah, this one was a total wipeout, I switched over from the Cup final to the news about seven minutes after the polls closed, and they were already projecting a PC majority with Ford winning his own riding by over 1000 votes. The next four years are going to be a gong-show.

I am having a baby girl next month. I am sad she has to be born into this. My little family is royally screwed under Ford.

Hey, the Wayner’s cousin’s wife won Windsor West for the Dipsters. Lisa Gretzky. I didn’t realize there was a Gretz at Queens Park.

Chin up. Life will go on. My little family survived wage freezes (twice) and exorbitant inflation over the years.

I'm pretty sure people will survive a few years under a Ford government.

I thought a minority gov was possible, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Libs deserved what they got and no one wanted the NDP it seemed.

Presently the Liberals and NDP are pretty much one and the same.

I did think the Liberals would have done better than they did.

Feeling really alienated this morning.

30 years of this neoliberal shit produces enough people that hate government to propel a complete pig of a man into leading government. It's become a recurring nightmare.

Mercy for the vulnerable.

We’ll see. His stuff was mostly around the edges... buck a beer, gas prices. If they phoque with hospitals and schools, that shine will come off in hurry. As a populist he’ll know taking a hacksaw to popular programs is a bad a idea.

He'll just call them wynne era programs, remind everyone how much they hated wynne, then do it anyways.

I guess the lesson here is that the liberals cannot move to hard to the left, lest they lose the political center.

Lesson for the NDP, they are not winning anything until they get more conpetative in rural ridings. Also, get a new leader. Ford was feared, the liberals hated, and they didn't even come close to winning. It may be a long time before conditions line up so well for them again.

And for the PCs, govern well for 4 years. Things change fast in politics. Ask Trudeau.

They'll hack funding to key public programs -- transportation, child care and health care. They'll also likely try to privatize more shit like TTC/Metrolinx, LCBO, etc.. And **** Toronto up the arse like the Harris government did.

Buckle up. It's going to be ugly.

The one thing Ford won't do is **** Toronto.

With the PCs you always have to worry about cuts to education, health care and social programs. But otherwise the differences between the Liberals and Conservatives really isn't that big in Canada.

When you guys say "cut to healthcare" do you mean fewer doctors? Fewer services covered under OHIP? Both?

How how extensive do you see these cuts will be?

And as far as Transit goes, they promised to add two stops to the Scarborough Extension, build the Yonge relief and extension lines, and upload the costs to the province. Which would be great for Toronto. The problem is where does that money come from.

I guess the Harris government didn't leave much to **** but this guy is going to screw what's left of the good of this city. Just sit back and watch what he does with the remaininng burnt corpse that gets overrun by commuters who live in Harris' low density, public transportation-free suburbs.
