New Canadian Politics Thread

Shit like this is why I'm moving to mexico. If I have to live somewhere with a rapidly breaking political culture and a soon to be smoking crater of a health care system, I may as well be warm 12 months of the year.

I gotta say, one of the nicest parts of travelling around is being able to more or less tune out the craziness going on back in Canada. I still get it all on my twitter feeds and stuff, but to be able to tune it out and know that it's not as closely impacting me is a relief.

You're on the Yucatan if I remember correctly?

Costa Rica for a couple more weeks, then up to Playa del Carmen in mid-Feb.

I have to urge significant caution when you return. If you are looking to buy or sell significant quantities of drugs in Quintana Roo, it's more dangerous than normal right now.

If you have the urge to buy or sell lots of drugs in Mexico, I think it's dangerous anytime. I'm more worried of the many reports of people who go and only get their passport stamped for like short stays and not the max time anymore (I don't need 6 months but hopefully don't get a bad border Agent who only gives me 30 days or something).

Yep, that's way scarier. I'm putting in my residency paperwork this year (easy for me to get through the wife) so that it's never an issue for me.

The anecdotal stuff I'm hearing is to avoid Mexico City, it's happening more there than at tourist destinations where they're used to gringos staying for months at a time. The laws were created mostly to tackle the problem at the southern border with central americanos coming in legally and out staying their welcomes.

The people he is aligning with would deport him by force if they were given the power to.
This is the argument I constantly get into on social media with people who claim I'm being racist when I call people out as "Uncle Tom's". If you're a black person and you try to rationalize or normalize people like Trump and his supporters, you are an Uncle Tom (or an Aunt Jemima, if you're Candice Owens) If you're Jewish and you pimp for Trump, like Ben Shapiro, you're also an Uncle Tom. You don't throw your support behind people who would happily throw you into an oven or lynch you from the nearest tree branch if they had the chance. You oppose those people like your life depends on it because it does. As bad as living under an authoritarian government would be for me, at the end of the day I'm still a heterosexual white male. Things would be exponentially worse for minorities. That's why I don't get why any self respecting African American would ever wear a "Blacks for Trump" t-shirt at a rally, even if offered money to do so (which I'm sure they were)

Hey Mrs. Preston used that line on him! He kept saying he doesn't care and that it's more important to him to get Trudeau out. But also that everyone was really nice there and he met some other Latinos and bla bla bla. He's too far gone and tbh his transformation from a "woke" lefty to this has been striking. He is the type to take extremist positions tho so I'm not too surprised.
You might also ask him why, if mask mandates and other things controlled by the Provinces are the root cause of his unhappiness, he isn't protesting at Queens Park waving a "Fuck Ford" flag instead. Seems to me this convoy is just a thinly veiled excuse for people with Trudeau Derangement Syndrome to act out.

I was driving in downtown Edmonton on Saturday and ran into a not-so-mini Freedumb Convoy. I had no idea they were staging these redneck renaissance fairs all across the country or I would have avoided the area. what is it about these infantile morons and honking horns? They're like toddlers. Took me half an hour just to get around the gridlock, then had to go another half hour out of my way in order to get home.

I don't think there is a place for logic in these conversations
