I think the issue is the sole source contracting of these locations to Staples and the cost to set them up. Most of Service Ontario locations are privately operated and have been for years.

they're using taxpayer money to subsidize renovations for a private company with no discernible benefit to the taxpayers.

There are all kinds of rules against doing that. Not the type of thing bureaucrats just do on their own without political involvement and cover.

Usually there is a rule about anything over X amount cannot be sole sourced.

And the amount is like 50k or something pretty low.

Sure they did! They gave the biggest envelope at his daughter’s nuptials. WalMart and Canadian Tire will just need to do better next time.
