The barrie line runs what twice daily? Not that much further than were I am located.

Yeah, if you work downtown or near Downsview the GO is workable and kind of awesome. Still a lengthy commute but at least you're not stuck driving, can get some work done, watch movies, whatever.

I mean one of the reasons we fled Toronto was that we wanted to buy property, and weren't going to be able to afford anything remotely in our budgets anywhere close to the city. and that was in 2018. and prices have only skyrocketed since...

hell, my brother still lives in Toronto. got a massive bonus. thought about putting it towards a down payment, and concluded he couldn't afford mortgage payments.

I don't say this lightly, it's at epidemic levels right now. You legit need two working adults with above to well above average jobs and minimal to no debt, pooling and saving their money for bunch of years just to afford a down payment on a smallish starter property that will suck up 50+% of their after tax income until they're 60+. Throw kids into that mix and I just don't see how it's tenable anymore.

I'm in my goldilocks zone right now. Doubt it lasts long. Biking in in shorts and a t-shirt, but barely sweaty on arrival.

5+ for most of the month = nice month of weather for Presto!

All yours bud

Anyway yeah I mostly agree that Canada is pretty much broken. It's heartbreaking because there will be a lot of pain, but a massive recession is needed to reset a lot of the damage that is done.

yeah even in Halifax, it's not much better. Me and Mrs. Wayward are both lawyers. we had help from both of our parents. and it still took us over six months to find something, and getting outbid at least 10 times, usually well over asking.

and we're dinkwads currently too

Well… how does one put this delicately? We are in the early part of a… um… “generational transition.” It will have a significant impact on the wealth distribution (unless scumbag retirement communities gobble it all up) and housing, one would imagine. So, we’ll see.

Toronto and Vancouver are messed
No arguments there.

$400k for 1200 square foot renovated bungalow
Yes yes Edmonton
But we still get to go to concerts, nhl games, play beer league hockey, have two kids, etc

For someone that grew up in a trailer park (6 person family) where we were forced to grow our own food... Life is significantly better.

Super bigly bad: GTA & Lower Mainland
Really bad: Victoria, Hamilton & Extended GHS+
Bad: Halifax, Ottawa, Montreal

Not sure about Calgary and other bits of Southern Ontario, such as London

Other areas are kinda OK. Maybe the Okanagan is bad, and pockets of recreational areas being influenced by cities (e.g. Prince Edward County.)

I don't know why everyone shits on Edmonton, I loved it when I visited. People are nice, some nice homes and malls to waste time in. I guess my personality type is drawn to that.

Thoroughly enjoyed it, only thing I hated was the sun not setting before 11pm in June which fucked up my sleep clock.
