New Canadian Politics Thread

This will take at least a decade, have cost overruns out the wazoo, and will be just as expensive as flying.

And that's if it ever actually happens.

The TTC extension in Scarborough will get done before this ever gets off the ground.

About fucking time. Though it should go to Windsor / Detroit.
How many times have we seen a story about how high speed rail in the Windsor-Quebec City corridor, or part of it, is imminent? Every time i see a story like this my mind immediately jumps to that Simpson's episode about the monorail.

Trudeau can promise anything he wants because he knows he won’t be around long enough to have to produce.

The issue, of course, isn't that people need a faster train, it's that with or without high speed rail, they still need a car. You can take a high speed train to Ottawa but what then? Have you ever been to the Ottawa train station? It's next to the highway and miles from anywhere. This is why people won't give up their cars.

They've talked about high speed rail and even a hyper loop between Calgary and Edmonton but again, what the hell do you do when you get off the train? Public transit is garbage and in some places downright dangerous.

Wrong

it's that with or without high speed rail, they still need a car.

Still wrong

The existing Via Rail terminal is like 600 meters from Hurdman station....I think someone can figure out how to make that work.

It's next to the highway and miles from anywhere.

It's a 12 minute uber from Parliament Hill. Have you never actually been a tourist before?

Painfully stupid take. Points for making me laugh with a non ironic hyper loop shoutout though.

"public transit is garbage". When it's not funded properly sure. Everywhere it's invested in, it's fucking outstanding.

As for Calgary & Edmonton. Run it from whichever current end of the C train line makes the most sense (Tuscany would make more sense if you were trying to increase Banff tourism, Saddletown if you were trying to link it up with the airport) and run it to YEG, and then on the other end run the century line to the airport finally....if we're talking about shit that's in the middle of fucking nowhere and all.
