As a matter of principle, agree. Can’t deal with a zero sum world view. Best case scenario is that they find us low priority, boring and irrelevant so that they go for deal just for the sake of expediency. Not sure how realistic…

but back to the main point - I think Ford caving will be interpreted as a sign of weakness. and all that the current American administration responds to is strength. we'll see soon enough.

Oh I'm on team Ford/ Canada, but if you look at the timeline...

1- Ford announces a 25% surcharge on electricity experts.
2- Trump announces in retaliation 50% on canadian steel and aluminium instead of 25% and to put such large tariffs on our car industry that it will permanently stops it.
3- they both agree to drop those tariffs, and only those.

if anyone caved it's Ford. Trump doesnt care about hurting his economy or his people, it's all about his legacy, his own vanity. He wants to be the man who merged our 2 countries together to be in history books.

I guess technically you can't, but it's also reasonable to assume that this dummy has become aware that he's crashing the economy and that everyone's making fun of him for it, his approval rate is tanking etc. In his mind, the current deal is "unfair" he gets some concessions (Art of the Deal!) so that he "wins", and moves on to something else.

I don't think he cares about tanking the economy anymore. I think it's part of his plan.
